csa liars

  • My dp has been paying csa for his son since 2003. Today we get a letter saying he is over£5000 in arrears to his ex and it can be paid at a rate of £360 per month on top of his csa. We were told in april that he was clearly overpaying for his son and it would be looked at to be reduced. How come they never mentioned arrears and why have they not been mentioned for 4 years. My dp just assumed he was paying them off. Can they just expect them today? We have phoned and basically was told csa comes before roof over your head even though I we 2 have kids
They are a pain! We have just had the same thing saying we have to pay an extra £700 when we have not missed any payments, we have sent about 6 letters to everyone we could think off as the csa people on the phone did not have a clue and would not offer any help, they have not cared that we have a new baby to look after and bills to pay, i still didn't get any help from the people i had sent the letters to so i got some advise and sent a letter to the MP with all the letters we had sent, they are now looking into this for us, We have just had a daughter in July and we are still waiting for this to be sorted out as well as a big drop in wages we are finding it very hard but they do not care! I would advise you not to bother wasting you phone bill to them as you will get no where with them i have spent many hours on the phone with no joy, have a look on the net for your MP it will have a email address for him/her they will then pass it on to someone higher in the CSA they will then look at your case and will have to give a break down of how they got to £5000, I will say we have been waiting 3 months and are still waiting still paying all this money out, Good Luck.

I totally sympathise with you Worried. I hope your hubbys had that DNA test. We went through somethung very similar. I have said it before as well. Not all NRPs and their partners think of child support is a low priority, some have already got their outgoings before child support is suddenly sprung on them.

And with your mortgage and ASDA ... YOU choose how much you can afford. They don't demand a figure off of you that you don't physically have at the end of the month.

And some NRPs don't have the opportunities to take on second jobs. They're already working high hours as it is.

Why would you (and I don't mean you personally btw) not have it? Wages/benefits whatever go into account and then the CSA gets paid from that....just like your mortgage and bills. It's a bill like any other and should be treated as that.

Because unlike when we got our mortgage and worked out how much we could afford every month ... the CSA assume you have 15% of your wages left at the end of the month, when some don't. Because some NRPs have set up their lifestyles to match their earnings and all of a sudden an extra outgoing is added that they have no choice or say over - the CSA. Not all NRPs are the same. Like Worried and us, we were living within our means. Just. Then all of a sudden child support is asked for. I'm not saying there will be no money available to pay for any child support, but for us, not enough for what the CSA would ask.

I think some need to look past the assumption that all NRPPs go into a relationship KNOWING about other children. It doesn't always happen. Or some are paying a certain amount they can budget for and then the CSA are contacted and suddenly they have to magic up even more.

I take that point and so I guess we are therefore back to the issue of getting more income in if there are more outgoings.....

Lets be honest, everyone's outgoings have went up now....energy prices, petrol prices etc - we're in a recession after all. For example, my energy dd is DOUBLE what it was this time last year - but the money has to be found from somewhere as if it's not I have no elec/gas in the house and they don't care about my circumstances. I certainly didn't envisage having to pay double what I was.

I don't know your story Shell but if it's the same as worried then I'm sorry, it's a horrible situation for all. All children and parents should have a relationship completely taking money out of the equation and for a PWC to block this (for whatever reason) isn't fair to any party ('natch if the child would be in danger then we're in a whole different ball game)

And to increase our income, I have to do it because my husband already works a lot of hours. So I didn't choose to get involved with a person who had a child and contribute my income to another child but I have to ... whereas a PWCP does.

Well I suppose you could say I did choose, in that I didn't leave my husband when we found out and become a single parent myself. What a choice aye?

Yeah thanks for the top tip about the energy prices....I do it every so often to make sure I am getting cheaper for everything.

Similarly, the O/S board would be a mine of information for you for getting your groceries down...every little helps eh?! :)

Ooh believe me, my groceries are down! Helped by the fact that tonight I am having dinner at my parents :D

I spent a lot of my time on the Old Style board and also got lots of helpful tips from Sou a while ago.
