Do I have a right to time off work for scan of baby?

Hi, just wondered what rights if any at all I have regarding time off work for my baby?
I've been to the first scan and everything Is ok and second one is booked for 7th Dec. However my supervisor is saying I can't have the day off as someone else is already on holiday that week. The other lad drives a class 2 lorry I drive a class 1 so it shouldn't have any bearing on my job as he can get agency just like he has done all this week. So I just wondered if I have a right to argue it with him although I'm going to head office with this as the guy is a nob there is no reasoning with him. I'm not wanting to miss hearing my first baby's heart beat but I can't afford to lose my job either
Help!!

Only if you are the Mother.
I cannot work out if the OP is the mother or father of the baby.0 -

As nottslass says, no, you don't have a right to time off..
From: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG_10026556Fathers-to-be and time off for antenatal appointments
Fathers do not have a legal right to time off to accompany their partners to antenatal appointments as the right to paid time off only applies to pregnant employees. However, many companies recognise how important a time this is and let their employees either take paid time off or make up the time later.0 -
ahh sorry did not reaslise you were father. reschedule the appt fort the week after when your collegue is back and book the day as holiday.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0

Changing the day would make it 2 weeks late because of the hols at work. I've had run ins with the supervisor before its his way of getting one over on me cause I don't take his crap or kiss his !!!! like the other lads do. I've rang my boss in London and he is on holiday bloody typical! He may not be as much of a !!!!! The thing is its not like I'm doing the job of the lad who is off we do different jobs !!!!!!!0

Do you really need the whole day off?
Compromise with them and just ask for a couple of hours off to go to the scan, then make the time up elsewhere.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Could you not get the appointment rescheduled to a day when the other guy is NOT on holiday?
Why not just ask your boss which days would be suitable for him?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'm a lorry driver so I start between 4 and 6 every morning so no there is no comprises unfortunately.0
