Lose 18 lb in 4 days! Can this really be true??

I know what you mean. I'm not sure you can put it all down to hormones (or rather only to hormones) Being post menopause (surgically induced) I have a lot fewer of those hormones, and one of the advantages is that I no longer have those sugar cravings. I expect it is water retention, although why, I have no idea. Still the basic premise hold true - if you eat 3500 calories less than you expend you will lose a pound (even if it doesn't show on the scales until a lot later).0

I think our bodies do vary regardless of hormones. The weather, our moods, what we eat and how we feel affects us in lots of small ways.
If we just eat less, move more and give ourselves room for those fluctuations there will be a downward trend in weight. If we weigh ourselves once a week for three months and plotted them on a graph it should show a decline in weight... whereas people tend to get hung up on a pound here and a pound there, losing sight of the overall picture.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
exactly! when it comes down to weight issues, well being sensible never hurted anyone.
Been watching "Turn back your bodyclock" yesterday and the doctor had a very interesting saying " you dont exercise, you eat crap, you have gum disease and your lung capacity has been reduced by half due to your smocking. Even a dog is treated better than your body"
It is true that we take our bodies for gratned and think too muhc about satisfying the mind.

I think loosing that amount in 4 days is dangerous.
I have lost 21lbs in 19 weeks which is jsut over 1lb per week.
Sometimes you wonder whether it's worth all the hassle for 1lb, but I can assure you that the cumulative effect is worthwhile.0 -

A friend gave me the British Heart diet the other day and I was shocked at that it says you can lose 10lbs in three days on it:eek: and is proven but only use it for 3 days at a time then eat normally.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

The three-day diet has been circulated under a number of names such as the "British Heart Institute three- day diet", the " Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital diet", the "Soup Diet”, the "Pre-Op diet" and the “Seven-day fat burning diet". These diets are not connected with the British Heart Foundation and their origin is obscure.

I would run away as fast my chubby legs would allow it.
As has already been said the only way to loose weight is the slow and really boring way of 1lb-2lbs a week.
If you are doing a lot of exercise compared to your normal activity level then you may loose more. When I lost about 2 and half stones to fit in to my wedding dress in three months. I found that some weeks I lost up to 5lbs and others 1lb. But then I was cycling 5 miles everyday not matter what the weather was. Will not tell you I put it all back on and then some
One way to give a kick start for a week or so is to try the breakfast cereal route. Where you have cereal twice a day and a proper evening meal.
But I would only suggest that if you are really desperate. All that crash diets do is make you loose water and muscle. And you don't want to loose muscle as that is what helps you stay slim when you are there.
Mind you I was reading on Yahoo today that women who had less than 5 hours sleep a day are more prone to put weight on up to 33lbs in total. When compared to woman who sleep 7 hours a day. Dr's have no idea why this is the case.
So well as eating healthy make sure you get enough sleep.
