I would run away as fast my chubby legs would allow it.

As has already been said the only way to loose weight is the slow and really boring way of 1lb-2lbs a week.

If you are doing a lot of exercise compared to your normal activity level then you may loose more. When I lost about 2 and half stones to fit in to my wedding dress in three months. I found that some weeks I lost up to 5lbs and others 1lb. But then I was cycling 5 miles everyday not matter what the weather was. Will not tell you I put it all back on and then some :o

One way to give a kick start for a week or so is to try the breakfast cereal route. Where you have cereal twice a day and a proper evening meal.

But I would only suggest that if you are really desperate. All that crash diets do is make you loose water and muscle. And you don't want to loose muscle as that is what helps you stay slim when you are there.

Mind you I was reading on Yahoo today that women who had less than 5 hours sleep a day are more prone to put weight on up to 33lbs in total. When compared to woman who sleep 7 hours a day. Dr's have no idea why this is the case.

So well as eating healthy make sure you get enough sleep.

Is that sleep 5 hours+ during the day as well as the 8 hours night time sleep?

what did you do girl? cos I wanna lose about the same!

I am doing the Rosemarie Conley GI diet.
I think the classes (of whatever variety) are a great help and it helps to maintain your focus and gives you lots of tips and support.

I like this one in particular because it includes exercise which many don't.
Our salsa class is pretty funky if you like dancing.

Our lady is really good, she send us emails etc. which is above and beyond
    what she has to do.

I have also been doing plenty of exercise like cycling and we have bought an Orbitrek exercise machine which I use most days.

The class helps but obviously you need to put in a lot of effort yourself as well.
It certiainly seems to be a very healthy way to go anyway.
I feel so much better, not just through the weight loss, but through the food I'm eating and the exercise I'm doing.

I think the basics are always going to be the same - eat less, eat better and drink loads of water, but the tips and support are an aid that you can use to motivate yourself.

You can also do this with porridge instead of cereal, as it gives steady blood sugar levels and you'll also have a happy colon and good cholesterol levels as a bonus.

D'oh that should be per night. But I think in the article they said per day. Which I assumed to be a any 24 hour period.

i had drammatic weight loss about 10 (oh wow - hadn't realised it was that long ago.... ) years ago - food poisoning combined with a trek, so much more exercise than normal. i lost a huge amount *BUT* ended up with horrible stretch marks everywhere because the weight went so quickly!! i'm not against stretch marks at all by the way and i have an OH who claims to not be able to see them (bless!), but as a teenager it didn't help self esteem issues. it's a definite worry for losing weight that quickly - without proper toning, extra loose skin can be quite unattractive! (this is in addition to all the health risks raised already and is secondary - but with some people it's the aesthetic arguements that hit home :) )

I’m going to assume one gram of body mass in the form of fat equals seven calories.

One gram of fat is 9 calories. A lb of body fat is 3500 cals.

As for the "British heart diet", I'm not surprised it makes you lose weight; the entire calorie count for the 3 days is less than the recommended calorie count for one single day for a normal adult! (It was doing the rounds at work last summer, so one of my nutritionally qualified staff worked out the calorie count. It's also pitifully low in nutrients)

As for James Zeta - I'd give him a wide berth. It's hardly a quality produced website. Any fool can cobble together a few lines of text & publish it on the web.
  • Thanks for the advice man at home, I know what your saying with the whole salad trap, makes you feel gerat whilst your eating it but it doesn't fill you up at all! :-)

The two figures you’ve given are numerically different. They are describing two different things. The first is pure fat. The second is body mass, which is not pure fat, and includes things like water. Your figure of 3500 calories for one pound of fat-storing body mass, gives one gram as storing 7.7 Calories. I thought my rough-and-ready estimate was good enough for my calculations. :)
