Hi Penelopedee - I think we all feel the same about the money that went to waste before we found this place to be honest. It's annoying, but what's done is done and all we can do now is to deal with the results and learn for the future.

You sound really determined now - which is half the battle already, plus you have such a clear picture in your mind of where you want to be. I'm in a similar situation to you in that MrEH wouldn't bother with budgeting if it was left to him, he tends to spend first and think later although he is getting better. Since I discovered this place a while back our finances have completely turned around - for a change we actually have savings and have just managed to buy a second hand car for MrEH with real monthy rather than relying on a loan to fund the purchase. A lot of it is just learning to think differently about money, and also getting the patience to wait for something until you've sorted the money side out rather than impulse buying.

Determination is one thing I've got alot of (mind you it scares the hell out of OH)! He does understand what I am doing and is very supportive but if I left it to him nothing would change.

Money has left me feeling very down over the last year or so. Now that I am starting to take control and do something about it, it has made a big difference.

I am sleeping better already and I feel so motivated about everything. Today I just flew through a pile of ironing and blitzed the bedrooms without a second thought and I enjoyed sorting it all out. Must all be relative somewhere along the line.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • Managed to escape overtired and bored teenager to come to work today - good luck to DH who I've left in charge! And chipped another £15 off the CC.

  • :rotfl: Pen, is your ds on holiday then? At least you have the option to go to work. Congrats on you chipping away at your debt still. I think this may have been your third LBM but I think it will certainly be your last

    Keep going Pen :j
  • Hi Pap, yes its half term this week - and it is nice to disappear off to work for a couple of hours (just for a break!).

I had a NSD in the end yesterday but I had to get petrol this morning and I need a few groceries tonight (but if I spend more than a tenner I will be livid).

Knocked another £20 off my card today and hopefully I get paid tomorrow so I can make a decent sized payment again.

  • Did buy wine earlier for the weekend (using up a voucher that runs out this week) but other than that it was under a £5, so not too bad.

Nothing spent this evening and am giving some serious thought to the smoking now. I can't believe I'm putting this in writing but I intend to stop after the weekend.

Bit concerned about OH's job as well at the mo, it looks a bit shakey today. But thats been the norm this year so hopefully I have another plan forming (just in case).

I've updated my first post just to keep a record of things.

  • Had a good day at work today and finally got paid this afternoon so £200 was paid straight off the card.

No NSD though as I owed somebody a lunch and it cost £6 but I made sure I didn't go further round the shop to be tempted by anything else.

I've also bought a few Christmas bits in the Tesco Clothes sale. I did it online but paid the money straight off my card so that won't affect my totals (I had the money stashed away in my Christmas fund account). It was nice to get a few more pressies out of the way without the hassle of going into town.

Takeaway for tea tonight - but this is a budgeted for half term treat. I can't wait as we haven't had one for ages.

  • Usual day off with loads of family running around today. Took the family into town with me so I did spend a little but at least they know the joys of charity and discount shops.

We have two new little furry additions to the family coming on Sunday so we've sorted out feeding bowls etc. I hate to think what my older two cats are going to think though!

  • Ohhh - kitties! I'd love to get a second one but her Ladyship would blow a fuse - she wasn't wildly impressed when we had a second cat before and she was younger then, no way she'd tolerate a kitten now. Hope yours settle in well anyway - you must post up a piccy!

  • I can't wait to pick them up. One of my cats will is very old and will just stay out the way and ignore them but the other is going to be trouble I think. Oh well, we'll manage somehow. I'll try and post some photos next week.
