Whilst I'm in chatting mood, I might as well keep going. I realise I haven't really introduced myself. I am in my 30's and very happily married to my lovely husband. We've our own house (with not too nasty mortage). But we've had a hard couple of years with OH's work being more miss than hit. And we are both terrible at talking each other into spending money we don't have.
He hates finances but is totally brill about letting me get on with it and handing the money over. So that is how we are dealing with it now and paying back, bit by bit, what we owe. I've kept our heads above water for years and now I am making sure we live within our means.
His work has started to pick up again and I just had a major job/life change and am now doing 2 jobs. One of which is only part time which has been my dream for years and luckily I really love both my jobs and together they pay ok. The security of money coming in each month is such a relief.
So thats us really, we have a happy home, two lovely cats and a major desire to be debt free as soon as we can (and for once both of us are working towards it). This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
It's a little early in the morning for me to be sociable
but I just had to say thanks for the introduction. You're spot on with the frittering you've realised, I was the same. It's amazing that with just self-control, money materialises (assuming it was there to begin with of course).

Very quiet day here and the weather was horrid. Managed to drag myself round Mr T's and kept to the list although it did contain washing liquid and the like, so not the cheapest of shops. Spent the afternoon watching films and TV - no money spent apart from the groceries.
Have just been reading the OS board heating on/off thread. Feeling a bit extravagant now our heating has been on for a couple of weeks! This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

I think that is the biggest realisation. We are a lot better than we were - but we still waste money and I kick myself for it and the past regularly. I've had to forgive myself for mistakes of the past and just go from herepenelopedee wrote: »Actually the most worrying thing so far was realising that I would have blown the £500 odd that I've paid off extra in the last few weeks. What a complete and utter waste. That is probably the one thing that has really opened my eyes to my attitude to money.
I guess I've been wasting that sort of money every couple of months for years. I probably could have paid off my mortgage by now!
Worse still is that the money has been fairly easy to find - just not going out lunchtimes and thinking twice. I've still lived, eaten fairly well and enjoyed the odd wine or two.
If I can keep this up for the next year or so then I will be able to rid us of some other debts that have been haunting us for years.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I'm still kicking myself for being so dumb to be honest, but perhaps that's a good thing if it keeps it in the front of my mind.
I am learning my lesson and I will get there in the end. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Well done penelopedee.
I have been really impressed by your discipline on the pay one debt off in 100 days thread.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Cheers everyone, your support has been brill and its much appreciated. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Had a nice suprise this morning, I got paid back some money that I have been owed for a while and I wasn't totally sure I'd get it. So before it could be frittered, its been paid straight off CC1.
I've done all my normal Sunday morning running around and OH has just treated me to brunch out, which was nice (dosh left over from his night out). Unfortunately have to go and do a bit of housework now but at least its free! This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Now I've been and done it! I've committed on the 100 day challenge to clear that remaining card by 9th December. If that doesn't stop me spending, nothing will.
I want to get rid of my card debt so badly. This morning's surprise payment will help and I've two paydays before then so fingers crossed I can do it.This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0
