Harrods will be making an announcement this week, which will be posted on our website so please keep checking harrods.com for more information.0

Does this mean that everyone who had ordered previously them won't get them? It's a shame for the genuine people who wanted them but so worth it to stop those who intended to sell on ebay.:T0

I managed to find a cached page from google which does indeed state that:
Due to this high level of demand, the Chairman of Harrods, Mohamed Al Fayed, decided that it was going to be impossible to satisfy everyone, and has come up with a unique solution.
Instead of selling the Meerkat, which was priced at £19.95, the store will donate all of them to a selection of children’s charities. These charities will be Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, The Evelina Children’s Hospital, Chase Hospice Care for Children, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity and The Shooting Star Hospice.
Katharine Witty, Group Director of Public Relations, said: “The Meerkat craze has gone global. We have had hundreds of thousands of inquiries, and with the limited number we had to sell, so many customers were going to be disappointed.
“The Chairman decided that the fairest solution was to donate them all to charity. We are sure that the children will appreciate this incredible gift, and we trust that our customers will support this generous gesture to those most in need.”
Edited at 3pm: The link above used to take you to a cached page from around 10am this morning. It's now gone and the only page coming up in a search of the quote above is from this page at MSE.
It's only a game
