However also found that I don't have underlay, the carpet has a sort of rubber backing which is breaking up, but not the dreaded green powder.
Early start tomorrow for a day out so have a good day folks
pigpen - hope things settle down

Off to flutter a duster around but as I have had 2 large Gordons (one for you Soappie) I think this may be interesting or maybe just the Mrs beaton approach ( where has she been for a while btw?)

When it has all drained over night, then what happens?
if she hasn't answered this she will take the liquid, measure it and for each pint use pound of sugar and proceed as for jam...
boil it up, test for set and pot
she has but since mine's a recipe I will leave it here.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I gave the one liner version!
Valli's is the teacher version and far more precise - the 1lb sugar to the 1pt liquid is the key...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

actually since quinces are high in pectin you could probably try less sugar. If you did and you didn't get a set you could always reboil.
I have been making jams and jellies much longer than I have been teaching.
I find jamming VERY satisfying...
Did the stick-chucking work?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I never really did the stick chucking - just spoke sternly to myself and used diversionary tactics like making quince jelly! Not least because my gardener is due on Thursday and I spoke to him the last time he came about making jam from those quinces....
And I bet I've been making jam, or been around jam making longer than you have
As a small child, I remember going out with the family and spending what seemed to be a whole day blackberry picking and then making jam from them, with some apples from the trees in the garden thrown in for good measure...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

I have a quince tree in my garden, which produces 20-30 huge yellow quinces each year....but have never used the fruit except to look ornamental in a bowl. This year I'm determined to try quince jelly, and then to use the pulp to make quince cheese (http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/easy-quince-cheese-recipe-membrillo-467).
I haven't a clue what it will taste like, and hope it's worth the effort!
Thanks for reminding me to do this...Another job for half-term...!
