Well done Foxy!
Maintenance-wise I've never counted carbs. I just gradually add in things and work out my own balance point, but if you're counting I think 40-60g might be right. Someone else who knows more will correct me I'm sure (Eric?!).
Start by adding in berries. Then a week later add something like a more carby veg (not pots!) Then you can add the odd slice of wholemeal bread but I recommend keeping that to the early part of the day. Try to avoid adding in things like chocolate caramel digestives! Anyuthing unrefined and wholesome can be added slowly. You might find there's a trigger that sets you gaining again (a classic is pasta as we eat far too huge portions in this country).
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I wish!! But the thought of a slice of wholemeal toast has got me excited, how sad is that, I am literally jumping for joy at the thought of crunching something gorgeous at breakfast, I pray it won't affect me too much.
Also, as I will be participating in a few dry white wines in the coming weeks, I am sure that will help me maintiain:)0 -
But but but only ONCE or TWICE a week max at first. And only ONE slice. Or it really will stuff things up.0

Ok, I will probably just have one slice on a sat morning with my bacon and eggs then check to see how I am on the scales on Monday.0

Well done foxy
As they said, be careful!!
I bought lots of new togs for hols last summer as i'd gone down two dress sizes on my top half, and one on the botton half, but as soon as i started eating french bread and jam at brekkie, my belly bloated and two days in, nothing would fit, i'd even got new size 14 pj's that weren't actually loose on me but were very comfy and i couldnt even fit into them as they were cotton and had no 'give' for my belly
I honestly think that if you do lc, you stop retaining lots of fluid but once you introduce carbs the bloat is straight back.
Also remember, once you have carbs back in your diet you will get cravings again ( i did anyway) and it was the start of the slippery slope
I just cant restrict myself to a few carbs anymore, i think it's all or nothing as they make me so hungry ( it could be my unstable sugar levels though)
Good luck.0 -

I agree a few weeks ago I had pie and peas at a do and within 24hrs I had put 6lbs on  took me 2 weeks to ged rid of it too , it must have been fluid because of the extra carbs0 -

Yes, I put on 2 lbs in one day because of cherries and grapes:(it was gone by the next day when I went straight back on lc but it certainly bloated me, seems like once your in, your in.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -

I have not read any specific LC diets but rather a lot of the research in checking them
This is my understanding of it and I could be way of the mark, if I am I apologise. The bodys muscle system stores glucose (and water, i think 3 water for each glycogen) in the form of glycogen in the body's muscles, the amount we can store depends on how much muscle we have but seams to vary between 2000-3000 calories worth, we use this as fuel, any carbs eaten once this store is full are simply stored as fat. This to me seams to counteract the "2 weeks" or what ever many diets say it takes to go into ketosis.
I believe the idea of LC is to deplete this store which forces the body to go into ketosis, from what I have read this is a very natural thing and just about everybody does it whilst there asleep even if on high carb diets.
Now this is where me and most LC diets are maybe going to fall out, I dont think its necessary to be as extreme in the reduction of carbs as some of these diets suggest to get into ketosis. The one thing I do know is that I can turn it on and off every day (as most people seam to do at night) there's no build up into it. I have most of my carbs in one meal at night and the next morning I train and I can smell acetone strongly and I know I am not diabetic I have been checked by a doc and my home testing shows my glucose levels are steady in the 5.0-6.0 range.
Heres my logic which could be hugely flawed, but its based purely on observation and a testing sample of 1, me
We have a glycogen store, Mines going to be large (as I am physical big, even if lean) so say 3000 cals
I avg 140g carbs a day (over the last 30 days)
I avg 33% carbs a day as a % of energy input (over the last 30 days)
I avg 1700 cals a day (over the last 30 days)
My BMR is 3635 cals a day
So knowing all this (anal geeks ftw ...)
I burn 150 cals an hour just existing
I eat 566 cals of carbs a day, most of them (90%) at 7pm
So If I eat at 7.00pm by 11.00pm I will have burnt all those carbs, which is why I suspect I am in Ketosis when I train 12 hours after eating in the morning.
Maybe nonsense, I don't know, all I do know is I am loosing respectable amounts of weight (107lbs in 22 weeks now) and I am consistently loosing weight, I am never hungry and I have no cravings, and I am never listless or feel drained.
I do have one question how do people who are on a low fat high carb diet loose weight if the body is not burning there fat reserves, they lose weight so it must be burning there body fat (i lost weight on a high carb low fat diet, it was a lot slower and a lot harder than lower carbing and I couldn't keep it off, but at the time i lost weight) and from my understanding the only way the body can burn stored fat is by ketosis?0 -
Morning all.
Well I'm afaid after Eric's informative post......I'm going to bring the tone down.
I have asparagus pee.You know when you eat asparagus your pee smells funny? well mine smells like that but I've not eaten asparagus. Or anything different to normal (although I did have corned beef and I haven't had that for while...but even so it's never had that effect before so I'm not convinced it's even got anything to do with it anyway). Sorry to those who dont want to think about such things but it's bothering me. :rotfl:Anyone else experienced this whilst icing?
Today was going to be spent emptying one shed, then moving the shed round to the front garden temporarily just so we could make a start on the back garden. OH has decided he doesn't want the shed in the front garden as it'll look horrible and out of place. (Which it will.....but we don't have a great deal of choice, if you're making an omelette you gotta crack the eggs.) So I'm not making a start after all, I refuse to try to make the garden better with one hand tied behind my back, it's pointless. We have two sizeable sheds and a 12' trampoline, how does he expect me to work round that lot? So today will probably involve the couch a lot, I'm now in that kind of mood.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I was drinking apple juice when i read that then _pale_
If it's any help, my pee looks like tango
Hope no-ones indulging in that at this early hour.
I've been drinking lots, but obviously not enough as i must be dehydrated.0 -
Thanks. You're so helpful.
No, really. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0
