spooky - id been meaning to ask how the exercise was going !!
how are you finding the interval training ?
reps - i usually start beginners on 2 sets of 12 reps then increase the weight once a nice weight is being managed then up the reps to 15
to build tone you need high reps low weight to build bulk you need high weight low reps
also ladies will never look like fatima whitbred without additional help iykwim - so dont be scared of lifting a good weight
strength work is good for ladies in the long term as it helps against osteoporosis for starters - it needs to make you out of breath as well dont forget
a nice little shake on the last rep or 2 is a good indicator you are doing the right weight and reps then 30 sec rest period then off you go again
if your gym is quiet you could try this....
group your muscle groups together so think chest/back legs/arms abs/lower back etc then just do 1 set on each machine quickly move onto the other machine 1 set there quickly back to the first machine finish your second set there and back to the other and finish off
this means your body is constantly being worked whilst the muscle group is still getting the rest period
move on then to the next 2 machines - obviously is the gym is busy its not really practical and even when quiet you may get some odd looks but it really keeps your heart rate up and its amazing how much harder your workout feels working like this - but also makes it so much quicker too
this isnt advice as suchsomething i do on my own workouts something i offer clients when they really want the fat burning type of workout
but not for beginners
if you try it - let me know how you find it please xx:j MFi3 wannabee :j

OMG! OMG! I think the scales are broke, although I hope not, I have just weighed myself and I have lost 1lb and a quarter since Monday.
I was 8'3 on Monday and this morning I am 8'1 & 3/4, the last time I weighed that was when I was dieting really hard and practically starving myself - honestly I was eating 1 bowl of rice krispies for my lunch and bowl of noodles for tea and THAT WAS IT, it was painful, but now, with cutting the carbs out I feel like I am eating ALL THE TIME, why didn't I do this ages ago?
Although must admit, I was getting a bit fed up last night of not being able to have a biscuit, my OH was eating caramel chocolate digestives and I was acting like it wasn't bothering me when really I felt like crying because I wanted one so much.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I am getting there now and it really has given me a boost to keep at it, only another 7 weeks to go till my holiday, and I only want to lose another 2lb so I think I will go on the maintenance level for a while so I don't drop too much, anyone know how many grams of carbs you should have per day on maintenance?

Well done Foxy!
Maintenance-wise I've never counted carbs. I just gradually add in things and work out my own balance point, but if you're counting I think 40-60g might be right. Someone else who knows more will correct me I'm sure (Eric?!).
Start by adding in berries. Then a week later add something like a more carby veg (not pots!) Then you can add the odd slice of wholemeal bread but I recommend keeping that to the early part of the day. Try to avoid adding in things like chocolate caramel digestives! Anyuthing unrefined and wholesome can be added slowly. You might find there's a trigger that sets you gaining again (a classic is pasta as we eat far too huge portions in this country).0 -
I agree with Sarah, start adding a little back into your diet. Try a new food every week and see how it affects you. Start with low carb fruit such as berries or honeydew melon. Everyones maintenance levels are different - it depends how much your body tolerates carbs, how much exercise you do etc.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
