On the other side of the coin, my slimmest times have been my happiest. I've had much more confidence, been more outgoing and joined in with a lot more things. I now have a body suitable for couch surfing and a level of confidence to match.

Whilst I do think about my old age and whether I'll be fit or not, by far and large my main concern is my life now and it's depressing how much of it is passing me by because of my weight. Which is why I simply don't understand why I can't just do something about it once and for all.

    SNAP!!!
My confidence is zero, I can't take my kids swimming (can't run around in the park as i am so unfit), I can't enjoy clothes because its a case of what fits and doesn't make me look fatter as opposed to what I really want to wear:mad:

Anyway, today is a new day for me, I am going to try and do one challenge a day. Todays challenge for me is to NOT eat ANY chocolate......sounds easy but I ate 3 chocolate bars yesterday:o:o:o :eek::eek:(yes that was exceptionally bad and not the norm)

If I want a chocolate bar I am coming on here and would like you to kick me (verbally of course):rotfl:

    Consider it done! :D

Can you handle drinking water Bubby? Personally I hate the stuff BUT I can drink the fizzy carbonated version a bit better. I realise it's not as good for you as plain water but it's better than coke.

Anyway, whilst I don't think reaching for a drink of water will take away the chocolate craving, if you've drunk loads of water all throughout the day, I think you're a little less likely to experience the chocolate craving as strongly and then you can cope better with ignoring it.

As i said, might give calorie counting a go for a few weeks and see how i go.

Have you checked out the calculator Eric linked to previously? In order to lose 2 lbs a week I'd need to stick to a smidgeon over 1000 cals a day. How many chips can you eat for that? :D

    Hello peeps :hello:

    Room for one more?! :o

alias, I can't help thinking you have formed a Coalition Diet Thread, must be something in the news?? :rotfl:

Well, I'm confused & fed up as well :( I'm 2lbs heavier than I was on Monday  Yes, I did have a smallish blip on Monday, but yesterday I was extremely good low-gi AND I did at least 5 hours hard labour (aka housework) so thought I'd have squared up, but to put 2lbs ON is so not fair!!

So, today I'm in a strop & [STRIKE]thinking of[/STRIKE] having a pig-out day :o Don't try & stop me, it's chocolate, chocolate & more chocolate (& guilt, guilt & more guilt) all the way for me today!!

Shadowsfall, could you have different snacks? Like some nice veggie sticks...nomnomnom... I'm also helped in my low carb bid by being gluten and lactose intolerant!
Yes, I should get my @ss in gear in the mornings and cut up some carrots etc. Ditto on the gluten thing - I refuse to be intolerant as it's so tough to steer your way clear of gluten/wheat etc... did a wheat detox a while back and it worked wonders on my body. Much lighter now!

I know I can just see my OH's face at the till:eek: I bet he will say 'there's nothing wrong with you the way you are'... I blame my office job, sitting at a desk all day is not good :(
Mine was a bit concerned at first then he goes "I want you to be happy so as long as you're eating I'm behind you... and you don't need to lose anything." Ding ding ding! Winning answer that  He does have a bit of a junky diet and I do get suckered in though! Oh and yep - that's me with the desk issue too.

Oh, i remembered, hypnotherapy... a girl i have been working with is training to be a therapist and hypnotherapist
I do this :D as in I'm the practitioner. If you want it to work and you have a good therapist, it will. It's a great way to align your goals and get things acheived quickly.

Had porridge this morn - hmm. Was ok. Having a shake for lunch and I have apples for snacks! I've found that filling and re-filling a drink bottle with squash has really upped my water intake and I feel much better and more full. I jsut wasn't bothering to go downstairs to fill up our tiny glasses each time I finished one, this way, I'm set for a while.

How's everyone else doing today? :)

Hmm, I thought 1200 cals a day was the minimum healthy level? I've been sticking to that level since August last year and the weight has come off really steadily and well, and I must say, after the first week or two I haven't been hungry at all. It's surprising how much you can eat within that calorie limit.

At the clinic where I go they do a metabolic rate test with a machine that you breathe into for four minutes and it tells you what your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is - ie how many calories you need a day to maintain your weight. Mine is about 1760 which is quite good, but I do quite a bit of exercise. It's a useful number to have because it means that if you eat 1759 calories a day for the rest of your life you will never put any weight on. If you eat 1761 you will eventually get fat (bit like the whole budget balancing thing, just to tie it in to MSE for once!). One of the problems with very low calorie diets (any diet, actually) is that you can go into starvation mode which means your body conserves energy and gets used to coping on fewer calories, meaning your RMR lowers, so your total amount of calories you can eat per day has gone down. That's why we so often put on weight again after we lose it. I think what this means is that weight loss generally should be gradual, and keep up the exercise (adding exercise into your regime can raise your RMR).

Dont know whether to just go back to good old fashioned calorie counting.
When you get a moment of weakness just count it in, you've had your treat and dont feel the need to 'eat everything coz i've blown it now'.

    I am rather confused atm.

That is soooo true, I am exactly like that, if i give in and eat something naughty then I just think 'sod i've blown if or today so may as well eat a ton more carp' . Why do we have this mentality? That's why I am torn between doing LC or calorie counting, but think LC will give quicker results.

Anyone got any good ideas for what I can have for my breakfast that is low carb?
I eat at my desk (tut tut) and have been eating a nutri grain bar which obv isn't low carb so need a replacement? It literally needs to be quick and easy for me to to as well and not something that is cooked?
    I am stumped :(

That actually makes alot of sense. That is why we need to be sensible and choose a lifestyle that we will stick to and is easy to do day to day otherwise we will fail.
When I have lost weight before and then started eating 'properly' again I noticed that I not only put on the weight I has originally lost but some extra as well, must of been my body clinging on to it incase I starve it again.:o
