Gawd, wish i could turn back the clock
I too was one of those eat-anything type people and never put on so much as an ounce. I was however very active too. I started to work with food and discovered lots of yummy thingsand still never put very much weight on at all. When i changed jobs my love of food was still there but i was nowhere near as active. The food side has been cut drastically and am now a good bit more active but walking with the doggies a couple of times a day is as good as it gets.
No time for anything more. the cross trainer was sold last year as i couldn`t use it - i have RA and although its still in the early stages i was likely to do myself some damage if i had carried on.
I never believed anyone when they told me that i was lucky not to gain weight and i just took it for granted that i would always be like that.
Never mind, i`m only meand i`m sure that i shall lose some more with everyones support. I am a long way from my heaviest about three years ago but still quite a way to go yet.

Just curious here (don't want to get anyone's back up!) - to all the low carbers, do you see it as something long term and sustainable, or is it just a quickish fix until you're at target? I've peeked my head into the lc thread a few times and there seems to be a fair amount of falling off the wagon. Suppose this is common with most diets though!
It is supposed to be a woe for life, i know in my heart that i just wouldn`t be able to manage this.
The longest that i`ve managed is somewhere between 3 and 4 months and then i need a change. Don`t get me wrong - the food is great but regardless of the results i just need a change after a while.

IT is a woe for life, supposedly and to be honest I will always go back to low carb. Onceyou're at goal you have reintroduced most food categories, it's just the proportions that remain resolutely unlike the average British diet (slice of wholemeal toast a couple of times a week max, same with potatoes). It also keeps out all that over refined white stuff that is really not good for you, but plenty of veg and fruit. So pretty healthy relaly. THe more xtreme stuf is just to get you where you want to be. I've lived low carb (maintaining) for about three years now, it's really not so hard.
Also, take no notice of the low carb thread at the moment. It's full of very naughty people.0 -

I start off with the firm intention of making this my long term way of eating. I feel much better when I restrict my carb intake, I have so much more energy and better skin/hair etc.
However, I have very strong carb cravings every month and find it very difficult to not give in. I also find it difficult when out for a family day and all around are eating ice cream cones and I'm sat there with a chicken leg.
So, I fall off the wagon regularly. Even so, it still seems to work as I'm a stone and a half lighter than before. Clearly I would be a lot lighter than this if I could be more rigid in my approach but dipping my foot in and out still seems to work better for me than trying to follow another plan.
There are posters here who have followed a low carb way of eating very successfully for years.Herman - MP for all!0 -
No it's not, we're all over here now. :rotfl:
I like it over here
Can post when sticking to it and can post when i`m not, no need to feel that i shouldn`t post if i`ve cheated unless i see that someone else has.
Oh and i`ve just eaten a bar of dairy milkThat was for both breakfast and dinner though
The kitchen man is here again and if he spends anymore time on the phone instead of fixing my units i shall ram it where the sun don`t shine.
After today he won`t be back until the end of the month so i can put some of the things in boxes away in the cupboards that are fixed. This should help me a lot as i`m sick of rummaging through boxes to find things. Won`t be perfect but will be a heck of a lot better, my cutlery is on the chair next to me in a box and there are 5 boxes wedged on the stairs

Mine really is mind over matter, I have too much time on my hands as a stay at home mum and eat to see me through the boredem:o, when I used to work I was soooooo busy I didn't have time to think about food and then for "treats" I used to have a massage or a facial etc....now I hate the way i look so much I don't see the point in upkepp with my personal appearance:eek::eek::eek::eek: (which of course I know is a viscious circle in itself), I wonder if there are as many people who actually detest how they look so much they have no pictures taken with their children:(:(:(
My biggest fear is that being overweight will lead to an early death (sorry to be so morbid) and I adore my children and couldn't bear to leave them
Why can't I just bl**dy do it?
Am going to spend the afternoon reading up on ww and sw and see what suits me best.
FEEL FREE TO NAG ME OR GIVE ME A KICK UP THE B*M WHEN NEEDED!!:rotfl:0 -

I think you have to view it as long term, start off as strict as you can then when you are at target weight slowly reintroduce certain foods, weighing yourself every day is key to this way of eating as you can monitor what effects you, it can be hard at first but soon becomes second nature and the excellent weight loss is a great incentive, however, if you do hit those carbs again something called carb creep sets in and you (or me anyway and a few others I think) really struggle to get back into it again, the weight just seems to pile on super quick so I think the best way is to view it as a eating plan for life - its made a lot less boring by the recipes on the low carb thread though, just dont try them all out over a few days like I have:olots of low carb=high carb, idiot that I am:rotfl: -hth:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Well done to everyone!
Thought I'd venture out of lurkdom to join in. I'm doing the Tesco version of SlimFast. Lots cheaper! It's kind of informal as I only want to cut the calories off breakfast and lunch. Having a less than easy time keeping to breakfast and lunch though! Wish they wouldn't make all the snacks etc sweet too - I don't really like sweet things.
I would like to lose a stone ideally though my main focus is my BMI, just to be a bit healthier.
Looking forward to staying on the waggon with you all!0 -
Thanks for your answers, really interesting to find out a bit more about itI wonder if there are as many people who actually detest how they look so much they have no pictures taken with their children:(:(:(
I don't have kids but there are virtually no photos in existence of me from about 2005 (post uni) to the beginning of this year. And now I have a blog and post pics of myself all the timeIt can be done!!
