I have no idea why the thread has been moved because it wasn't devoted only to diets, so I am not sure if it fits in with this larger thread.
Once a thread has been moved, does it have to stay moved or can we request that it be reinstated. If so, can anyone show me how to request this. - I'm not very techy minded I'm afraid.
It's not that I want to throw my toys out of the pram because "our thread" has been moved, after all anyone is free to read and post - it's just that I think the topics and ideas we were sharing were not just confined only to diets.0 -
I've been reading about the "dukan diet" this morning and it's really appealing to me, I could quite happily have odd high protein days and eat in that way. I used the dukan ideal weight tool and it gave me a very low ideal weight, i haven't weighed that little in 2-3 years and I was very skinny (a 6 at 5'2!) so I think I might take it with a pinch of salt? It also doesn't require ridiculously expensive ingredients or weird exercises, and suggest oat pancakes/porridge everyday- my favourite!
There isn't much about it on here, but does anyone follow it? I'm not sure whether to start it now or after christmas(how can anyone diet with so much nice alcohol and food around? it's christmas!)Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

I'm not particualrly au fait with what to do either. I thought the original thread was more about some beauty and fashion advice (on a budget) for the er....'older' lady. I don't see how it's going to be found on this huge thread. I read that Mrs Tine is one of the board guides, perhaps you could send her a PM?

Having a dreadful day. OH unwell and very, very busy with caring duties, taking him to hospital, had to drag myself round chemists for his meds and various paraphernelia and then a quick whizz round Sainsbury's before the snow starts up again. Snow and wheelchairs are not much fun.
Todays progress - very little to report.
No exercise yet - still sore from physio, will try a few yoga stretches later.

As a newcomer to this thread, truefully, I'd say forget it - diets don't actually work over the long-term because they don't address your underlying relationship with food. I'd recommend instead you start keeping a food diary and start looking at what you eat and how much you eat. Then think seriously about what and how you can change your editing habits. Otherwise like the majority of people (and of course there will be people who say "Well it worked for me" but looking at bodies of people, they just don't work), you'll simply yo-yo in weight and go from diet to diet. losing weight but more importantly keeping it off and staying fit and healthy requires a fundamental change in habits that is for life. A change that sadly a lot of people seem to be incapable of.
Moreover diets have all sorts of other health side-effects that means they are likely to cause you to put on more weight in the long-term not less.
Forget diets with a little d and concentrate on fixing your Diet with a big D.0 -

The good thing I've found with the Dukan is that it does actually seem to train you and change your eating habits. Plus it's a long-term commitment, where you very gradually introduce a wider variety of foods back into your diet afterwards so that your body/metabolism can adjust (otherwise the weight would just pile straight back on). Then you are provided with guidelines regarding how to eat and exercise in order to stabilise and retain the weightloss - hopefully for the rest of your life.
Much of the publicity about it makes it sound very faddy and some kind of easy-fix "miracle cure", but it isn't. It requires commitment and work, and it prepares you for life after the diet.
As a female over 40, I started finding it very difficult to lose weight, but Dukan has helped me immensely. Even though I ate sensibly/healthily and exercised a lot previously (yet still managed to put on weight), I now have a much better idea of how to manage my weight since embarking on the diet.
Whilst I agree with your sentiments, Dukan has worked for me. You're right - any long-term loss must be maintained with a change in habits. Commitment and self-discipline are musts as yo-yo dieting will damage your chances of retaining a healthy weight in the long run.0 -
