I wasn't aware that all the regulars who give advice based on their knowledge and experience were actually qualified in animal behaviour, nutritionists or veterinarians? Congratulations you have seen off the intruder on your territory.

Not my territory at all! I rarely have time to frequent the forum these days and have only looked in here recently as I had some time on my hands.

I apologise if I've offended you, not intentional, although I'm told I do tend to come across as rather blunt at times. My comments aren't personal, just stating the facts as I see them which are that you come across as somewhat obsessive at times, often speaking with an air of authority that people could wrongly perceive. Perhaps it's just the way you word things, who knows. None of us are perfect.

That's the problem with the written word on forums, often people misinterpret the intention, as some have done with mine. No problem, just set the record straight if that's the case.

Obsessive?? How very dare you!! Actually that's a pretty accurate assessment. :p

Joking aside perhaps you could add that you are a vet/ vet nurse to your signature? Then your advice will rightly take precedence over conflicting opinions. Please feel free to correct any glaring errors I make at the time via PM, as I am keen to learn from those with more experience/ knowledge/ qualifications.

I would expect a food recommended by healthcare professionals to be better than just 'not bad'. I'd also like to know if a product is being recommended because the vet gets a good deal or because it's 'easier' rather than because it's the best food for my sick pet.

I haven't ever said all Hills Science food is poor, in fact some contain over 50% meat which IMO makes these variants one of the best dry foods. However Hills diet dry is mainly rice, inappropriate for an obligate carnivore and, more importantly for MSE, not good value. There are many who would argue a dry food designed for renal failure is illogical.

I said "not bad" because it's not in my personal top 3 :) And I haven't done any research into it's quality, ethics and so on... So all I feel comfortable saying is that it's "not bad" - unlike Whiskas, Felix, any supermarket own brand I know about and so on which I personally think is little better than feeding junk food to animals :) And those saying they feed it for cost reasons need to have pointed out that most of the time it works out cheaper to feed for example Arden Grange (Others may work out cheaper too - I just simply don't know the bulk prices for them because I don't buy them :) ) if you do your shopping around.

On a serious note - unless everyone can behave like adults then this board is going to have to be regulated a lot stricter again which is not something I'd really like to return to... Either stay on topic or threads will get closed and referred to Abuse - if someone "has a pop" then report them and ignore them. As board users you have the luxury of placing other users on "ignore" in your control panel... if you don't like the views of a particular poster then I would encourage the use of this facility :)

I don't feel anything on this thread was bad enough to report to abuse, but when it is posts take days to disappear. I've only been on this board a month, but have received more PMs in that time than the other nine months on MSE put together. Many of the PMs have been from people who didn't want to put themselves in the firing line by posting in public, which is really sad.

i bought pets at home purely dry kitten food (65% meat) and it seems to have given my cat the runs :( going to keep him on it for a couple of days longer to see if its just his system adjusting, but if he doesnt, it would seem he is actually better on the crap food!!

Did you switch him over slowly, mixing a little bit more of the new food in each day? Many adult cats tolerate a sudden change fine, but kittens sometimes need a gradual change.

I can't remember what the kitten was on before (sorry!), but are they are going from a very low meat content food to a very high meat content? If so you might need to do a really gradual change over a couple of weeks.
