    Hi All,

Just applied and been accepted by email a few mins later. PIN in 3 business days, card 5-7 days. No mention of any form to sign (though you electronically sign it in the application), nor any physical ID check required.

Not sure with regards to the full ammont being paid by Direct Debit, it doesn't say so in the T&Cs, though it does mention about charges regarding a failed Direct Debit, so DD of some type is certainly available.

I guess some documentation regarding payment will arrive some time before the card arrives, else they may ask for confirmation when you call to activate the card once it arrives.

    Cheers

Applied this morning, and just been accepted - and the website says "3% cash back on food A full 3% cash back wherever you buy groceries in the uk. The ideal card for your weekly shop"

Tres cool me thinks ! :)

But how do they know you've bought groceries, i.e. you buy a hoover in Tesco so they count that because its a supermarket, but you buy drinks, crisps, sweets, sandwich in Boots, that woudn't count?

The credit card company uses pre-defined classifications and they will use this to determins what is 'petrol' and what is 'food'. I imagine that Boots will come under something different to Tesco but it does mean that you can buy Tesco electricals and get the cashback on them as well.

That's how I'd expect it to work. I imagine they will go off the MCC (Merchant Category Code) for the transaction.

Going slightly off topic (as they turned down both me and the missus) it seems the govt has proposed a seperate category for 'snowmobile dealers' - do you reckon they get a lot of people buying those on their credit cards?
    I think....

    Hi All,

Been looking at my Egg statement for comparisons, all the main supermarkets I've used in the last six months or so (Tesco, ASDA, Morrissons, Somerfield, Iceland & Kwik Save) as shown as 'essentials - supermarkets' so I guess on the GE Card would generate 3% cashback.

Marks & Spencer (both large and a Simply Food one I have been to) are shown as 'high street & web -miscellaneous' so I'd guess wouldn't count. Shame Simply Food ones don't count, maybe all M&S are simply put under one category.

I guess the ultimate test comes once the card arrives, you start spending, then get to view the first statement!

    Cheers

I don't see how they can afford to pay 3% cashback ? Since they are not making that much from the merchants ?
  • Thanks for the tip Martin.
    Applied and now awaiting reply.
I do over 100 miles per day, so will come in very useful in conjunction with Egg Money.
    Fingers crossed!
