Correction - if you read the summary box

    http://www.gemoney.co.uk/html/creditcard/everyday_summaryboxforcardsproductdetailpage.shtml

on the website, it confirms the 56 day interest free period.

I must have asked the lady from GE Money Everyday card the wrong question - or at least a question not precise enough.

Please forgive my mistake, but after my experience with MBNA when even after paying off in full, you were charged interest on the interest accrued from each purchase date - I'm alwayd wary of new card terms.

    Happy to oblige...you're totally wrong!

BTW, why ring them when the information is freely available in the Summary Box...
    Interest-free period

Maximum 56 days for purchases if you pay your balance in full and on time. There is no interest free period on cash transactions. Interest free period on balance transfers only applies to the introductory period.
  • In the info for the Everyday card on the website it states:

"Interest Free Period: Maximum 56 days for purchases if you pay your balance in full and on time."

And then under Interest Charging Information:

"If the full balance outstanding on the statement is paid and credited to the Account by the date for payment shown on the statement no interest will be charged."

which I took to mean that its not the case that interest will be charged from the moment you make a purchase (unless you dont repay in full). But I've not spoken to anyone directly to confirm this.
  • Ooops - Sorry YorkshireBoy. I'll need to be quicker off the mark than that to avoid crossposting !

So all members who have been rejected for GE card should definitely write to GE urging the Co. to reconsider their decision.

Can anyone provide an address for this?

It was on the bottom of the rejection letter they sent me.

Be prepared for a long wait though, because they've had mine a month now!

    Oh dear, I've shredded it.
If anyone has it then please can you post it here.
I have emailed GE as well but no response as yet.

    Thanks

On a different note, everytime I have been rejected by a credit card company in the past I have always written to them to try to convince the company that I am financially a 'safe customer' i.e. my name on electoral register,I am in a stable profession, never defaulted in my payments, have a good credit history etc. and no company after receiving my follow up letter has said a 'no'. So all members who have been rejected for GE card should definitely write to GE urging the Co. to reconsider their decision.

Just thinking about doing this. Has anyone already written a letter that we could adapt? If not, and I get time to write one I will post something

I got turned down as well :embarasse ; before I applied I considered myself to have a very good credit rating.

I was thinking of writing a letter as well - I look forward to copying your one :T

    Here is the address:

    GE Money
    Appeals Department
    PO Box 700
    Leeds
    LS99 2BD

Here is my letter for what it's worth:
    Dear Sir/Madam,

My application for your Everyday credit card has recently been rejected. I am very disappointed and surprised. As suggested I have checked my credit reports and cannot see any apparent problem. I have lived at my current address for over 3 years and I have been registered on the electoral roll during that time. I have operated many credit agreements successfully without any late payments at all. My basic salary is high and I have been with the same employer for almost 7 years. My credit history appears to be excellent and without any problems at all.

I would like to appeal against the decision to reject my application and would request that you re-consider the decision as I would very much like the opportunity to be a GE Money customer and have the opportunity to use your product. I was hoping to get a second card for my husband who also has an excellent credit rating. Our household income is circa £xxxxxx.

If you still do not feel that my application should be accepted then I would be grateful if you could tell me the reason as this will help me with other applications.
