Local corner shop rant

I always check too, because this guy isn't very good at removing stuff from sale that's out of date. I usually only ever buy the paper from him...even HE can't charge more for the paper!
But this elderly lady wasn't able to see the sell by date on the bread as it's so small, and obviously trusted the shopkeeper not to sell out of date goods. I thought it was disgraceful that he basically conned her into buying bread that was not fit for consumption...any decent shopkeeper would've been embarrassed and refunded her money right away.
There was no way this man was going to part with a penny, that's for sure. The cost of that loaf might have been a significant loss to the old lady, but he couldn't give a stuff.
My friend works for them and WILL NOT eat from a certain nationally available fast food outlet - but will not tell me why. Suffice to say that's good enough for me...
Tells me tales of pies that look ok (pastry's fine) but the filling - yeuch..
Incidentally she told me about Scores on the Doors...

Why in the name of God should anyone be offended by describing an immigrant as an immigrant??????
They most certainly shouldn't.
My point was that the reply to your post describing someone as such was picked up on by someone who wasn't offended by it but thought that he could improve readers perceptions of him by highlighting the wording.0 -

Well I for one find it quite distressing that you take the name of our floaty beardy lord fella in vain!
Racism I can take, but blasphemy, why, I nearly coughed my worthers original into my jam scone!0 -
one of our local shops is awful, the bread on the shelf all has mould on it ewwww
i avoid it as it is a payzone shop and my meters are on paypoint, incidentally the local shop wont take credit/debit cards for paypoint, only cash, and their atm charges £2 fee a time

Sounds like my local bus drivers. Quite often somebody gets on and if they don't have the exact change, the drivers snap back with gems such as:
"this isn't a mobile bloody bank!"
"Get the right change or don't bother"
and "go away until you've changed that at a shop"
And that's quite often to people who have clearly just got off a train, don't really know where they're going or know the prices of the local transport. I think stagecoach is totally in the wrong for getting so snippy when they increased their megarider tickets to £11 a week. who can get £11 exactly out of an ATM?
I can understand places running out of change, it even happens sometimes where I work, but there's NO excuse for rudeness.
I think buses are very different to shops. Bus drivers are given very little change and are encouraged to bank as much money as possible as regularly as possible so they reduce the chance of them to be robbed. Up until last year one large bus company in North West of England had "Exact Change" only boxes where if you didn't have the exact money you either had to leave the bus or overpay. I know some bus companies still have this. Also certain bus drivers don't have any customer service skills as when they started the job they were locked away in a box at the front of the bus and it was the conductor who dealt with the customers. Sadly some drivers would still have it that way.
As for the shop I would forget about it and go somewhere else. Its really not worth the hassle. We live in the middle of nowhere and make sure our big shops at the supermarket cover pretty much everywhere and whatever we run out of we just make do until can get into town to buy it.0 -
This has reminded me of years back when we had a truely awful day when I worked in an M and S food store. We had not received our cash delivery in the morning and half way through they day the ability to accept cards completely failed. I can remember one flash 'executive' middle aged man came up to my till busy talking away into his mobile.
He was buying around £4 of food and dropped a £10 note on the till infront of me. I sat there politely waiting for him to stop talking on the phone so I could tell him that if he wanted me to change the money it would be in shrapnel. He would not let me speak just starting loudly complaining that I was refusing to serve him. I tried to explain we had pennies only but he told me to shut up.
So I started counting out my shrapnel. I managed to scrape together nearly £3 of 10p's and 20p's and I was starting on the 5p's when I heard him shout 'what the hell do you think you are doing? How dare you give me rubbish like that!' I showed him my empty till and said I did try to explain but he demanded his £10 back and walked out of the store. I even got told off by the manager for upsetting him! Happy days!0 -
I don't get it. The £50, £20 and £10 note has to be broken down into smaller amounts somewhere. If the shops don't want to, and the transport companies don't want to, how is the consumer meant to buy anything for cash?0

The milk goes off after about two days and the fruit & veg is always poor/rotten.
The prices and stock choice are ridiculous as well.
There is a Tesco express opening next door though. Ha ha.
Better off sticking to you local.:D0
