Local corner shop rant

While there's no escuse for the shop girls rudeness to you, I can understand her annoyance.

I work in my local Coop and we only have a set amount of coins in our tills when we first come onto them, and usually no notes at all. This would be fine if the first 20 customers didn't come to the till with a £20.00 each to buy a paper.

You wouldn't believe how snotty some will be when you're left with no choice but to load their mitts with pound coins, fifty pence pieces and when desperate- 10p's etc to give them their change.

i have only ever refused to serve one customer when his friend came to the till first with a 5p chew toffee and paid with a £10.00. I said nothing to the first guy, I just gritted my teeth and politely gave him almost my till's entire contents in change, but I have to admit I nearly lost the plot when his friend- immediately behind him- tried to do the same.

The shop near me used to be Supercigs, a newsagents, then was taken over by some immigrants. Within weeks they were selling everything you could think of at inflated prices...fine if you're happy to pay it.

Yeaterday I went in for my paper, and found an elderly lady in tears. She'd bought a loaf that morning, got it home and it had green mould on it.

She hadn't been able to read the tiny "sell by" date and the loaf was five days past that date. She took it back and asked the man to change it but he was refusing. He'd charged (more than) full price for it but despite my intervening, as the old lady's a neighbour, he just flatly refused and told us "Get out of the shop." She was SO upset.

I was furious, and will certainly never go there again, and have told as many neighbours as possible who are all equally outraged.

Was there anything I could have done, or anyone to whom I could report him?

'Immigrant' is not a racist or offensive term - it simply defines a person who has moved into an area or country from elsewhere. There are certainly some alternative - and very offensive ways to describe such people.

Personally I'm fed up to the back teeth with the current overkill on political correctness which means we can't use the English language without being worried that some daft prat is going to leap down our throats and complain that their feelings have been hurt! I don't think the OP was meaning any offense - just explaining that the shop had been taken over by newcomers to the area/country!

This is NOT meant to have any racial significance but I shall continue to call a spade a spade - rather than ' a long handled agricultural implement designed for for turning soil or digging holes'!!!

Hmm, I never picked up on that. Perhaps if said with the wrong tone it could be offensive.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

What's that supposed to mean?? They ARE immigrants...!! They tell people that. Are you calling me a racist??

zaksmum, once you have been here a while longer you will realise that, apparently, everyone who says 'are you calling me a racist' or 'I am not rascist but' will actually be rascist as far as SOMEONE is concerned. Just ignore it and walk away else you'll get into pointless arguements. Because everyone who says 'I am not rascist but....' is clearly and obviously racist.

The PC Brigade are the worst thing about this site IMO.

Maybe the Immigrants do not understand the rules of retail and Use By/Best Before dates we have. I know you do not want to go back there but maybe buy something out of date, take it to your EHO with the receipt and show it to them! Or get a pic on your mobile phone camera. There is a 2k fine for each item found out of date.

I think you probably picked up on the wording, and whilst not offended by it yourself, you realised that others might be and that it could make yours look more the 'reasoned opinion' in this argument

Why in the name of God should anyone be offended by describing an immigrant as an immigrant??????
