Sounds like my local bus drivers. Quite often somebody gets on and if they don't have the exact change, the drivers snap back with gems such as:

"this isn't a mobile bloody bank!"

"Get the right change or don't bother"

and "go away until you've changed that at a shop"

And that's quite often to people who have clearly just got off a train, don't really know where they're going or know the prices of the local transport. I think stagecoach is totally in the wrong for getting so snippy when they increased their megarider tickets to £11 a week. who can get £11 exactly out of an ATM?

I can understand places running out of change, it even happens sometimes where I work, but there's NO excuse for rudeness.

Well that's why I was trying to get some change from Spar, I wouldn't dare get on the bus with a ten pound note! I've lost count of the amount of times I've been snapped at by bus drivers

    Myy local shop is useless.

The milk goes off after about two days and the fruit & veg is always poor/rotten.

The prices and stock choice are ridiculous as well.

There is a Tesco express opening next door though. Ha ha.

On a similar note, i took a pair of faulty shoes back to Schuh, that had cost me £50 and i had paid in cash, anyway it was 10am and they couldn't refunded them as they had no money at that time as people had only bought shoes with their card(so i was told) and that they don't keep more than £10 in float, so they had no change and asked me to come back in an hour, so i did as i wasen't bothered about waiting as i had something else to pick up whilst in town, when i went back they still had no money and was told to come back again after another hour. 3 Hours later i got my money back. I would of happily had an exchange but they had no more in my size available or in three other pairs that i liked. Wasen't best pleased.

I don't really blame the branch for not having change in their tills, if it had been where I had worked I would have probably put it through the till and taken the money from the safe and then once more money had been taken I would have then replaced the money taken from the safe

Everyone says to buy local - and I do, but when the majority of local shops are poorly run, bad quality with little customer services it's no wonder most people don't shop there. I'll quite happily pay slightly more to get something locally but only if they're providing something worth paying extra for...

The shop near me used to be Supercigs, a newsagents, then was taken over by some immigrants. Within weeks they were selling everything you could think of at inflated prices...fine if you're happy to pay it.

Yeaterday I went in for my paper, and found an elderly lady in tears. She'd bought a loaf that morning, got it home and it had green mould on it.

She hadn't been able to read the tiny "sell by" date and the loaf was five days past that date. She took it back and asked the man to change it but he was refusing. He'd charged (more than) full price for it but despite my intervening, as the old lady's a neighbour, he just flatly refused and told us "Get out of the shop." She was SO upset.

I was furious, and will certainly never go there again, and have told as many neighbours as possible who are all equally outraged.

Was there anything I could have done, or anyone to whom I could report him?

Im fairly sure he can ask anyone he wants to leave the shop.

    I personally always check the dates on short life perishables like bread, milk etc;

Give the trading standards people a fone or environmental health if you arnt happy with the quality of his produce. But not much you can do about him charging prices you dont like!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

I always check too, because this guy isn't very good at removing stuff from sale that's out of date. I usually only ever buy the paper from him...even HE can't charge more for the paper!

But this elderly lady wasn't able to see the sell by date on the bread as it's so small, and obviously trusted the shopkeeper not to sell out of date goods. I thought it was disgraceful that he basically conned her into buying bread that was not fit for consumption...any decent shopkeeper would've been embarrassed and refunded her money right away.

There was no way this man was going to part with a penny, that's for sure. The cost of that loaf might have been a significant loss to the old lady, but he couldn't give a stuff.

That's awful, if he does it with lots of things and it wasn't just a one-off could you report him to environmental health or something, as it could have been dangerous if she'd eaten it by accident. He was getting all arsey over a small amount, but it's worked out worse for him as now due to word of mouth, people will be avoiding his shop, all for the sake of a loaf of bread.
