Just watched the old stylers on Telly

Yep...just watched my way through it and you know you've been "thrifted" when you're sitting there thinking "hope they're planning on chopping off the side of that toothpaste tube to get out the last bit" and "why use vinegar even to wipe the worksurface - just use the washing-up water when you've finished doing the dishes?".
I'd personally like to see a more in-depth programme on this sort of thing - along the lines of juxtaposing Old Lifestyle/old Style Lifestyle.
eg OLD = we got in the car. NEW = we got on our bikes
OLD = we put the dishes in the dishwasher NEW = here's the teatowel/your turn to dry
OLD = the front garden was grass and shrubs NEW = look at how much food we've grown in this tiny space
and what would be ideal would be if the NEW lifestyle a few months later showed photos comparing the size they were under the OLD lifestyle and the (slimmer) size they might well be after starting the NEW lifestyle (with the healthier diet and more exercise).0 -
I could always send you one hun
I'm sure you could but what on earth would the initiation ceremony be for a fox recipe  To explain I popped into the Flylady thread for a soup recipe and now they have me S&S'ing instead of R&R'ing, lovely ladies all of themHariboJunkie wrote: »
I hope you were driving and not walking back when the urge to thump a fox came over you.And next time, you have no excuse.
;):D
Well done to all who contributed to the programme.
I'll pass thanks but a recipe for the lovely pheasant that occasionally strolls into the garden of a Sunday morning might be nicegeordie_joe wrote: »Is not having a fox recipe the reason you didn't hit the fox?
I have an image of you driving along and thinking "There's a fox, I don't have a recipe for that" then swerving
I was close enough to see it was a pretty scraggy looking fox, so I let it live :rotfl:0 -

NannaC - loved the swishing of the watering can in the butt:j. I felt a right plonker waving my hands around above bits of fabric.
:DThank you everyone for your lovely comments.:D
This format of programme is not new. As some old stylers will know there used to be a brilliant programme on BBC on a Sat morning in the early 70's recession called INDOORS OUTDOORS. It was just all about money saving tips, from gardening, cooking sewing, and I think money.
As this small programme proves it is time to revisit such a programme. I know that all us oldstylers have loads more tips at their fingertips
So come on Martin get pitching0 -
I forgot to say when I posted earlier that I thought everyone was terrific - I had no idea who I was watching and kept wondering about it!
I did think too much was crammed into 30 minutes though and I'd have liked more info on how Martin reduced the outgoings. A series would be brilliant - there's such a trend for moneysaving programmes at the moment - we have one over here called Living Lightly and I bet the OSers could show the "experts" a thing or two.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

you were great, well done! in fact all of you OS'ers were absolute stars
washing your hair in rainwater, used to do this at a friends house, we had lovely soft hair .... reminds me of a terry pratchett character - asked what was the secret of her soft hair she said 'you have to make sure there's no newts in the water'
Could that be Granny Weatherwax?
Yes, I am another Sir Terry Fan.
