"get with the times" you say
so the fact that there have been operators like TNT with a license to deliver for years isnt with the times?
if you say most post can be sent via email then why would anybody be interested in taking on the job?
alternatives to sending parcels? thats not an alternative to RM is it?
what exactly to you envisage for a privitsed RM? given the monopoly is to be broken?
if you privitise RM where will you post your letters? packets?
who collects the mail?
who sorts it?
who delivers it?
in an open market each company would do all of these parts themselves wouldnt they?

It is not financially viable for TNT to deliver to the door at the moment (please read the article), even though they want to. There are plenty of private couriers etc who already deliver parcels.
RM workforce / union is not allowing modern work practices and technology to be introduced which would address the issues you have raised.0 -

They are also on strike due to modernisation agreements that were agreed with them 2 years ago! So why the sudden change of heart? They have actually gone back on an agreement but they never seem to want to tell the public that0 -

i think you will find RM have been pushing forward the agreement and bringing in stuff that was never agreed or way ahead of when it should have been
as i have said constantly my office has done all the changes
just because its in a paper doesnt make it true.
i know you have read my posts yet you seem intent to believe all the problems at RM are the workers making
I'll say again where are these modernisation plans?
BTW its not sudden, its been ongoing but of course joe punter doesnt care until they see it effect themhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/oct/18/tnt-postal-service-royal-mail

interesting,so what exactly am i blocking & how do they address the points i raised?
RM have yet to provide any working large scale 'modernisations'(not cuts)
the only recent thing has been the ever crashing PDA's
now RM have brought out some new barcodes but nobody updated the firmware to accept these on the PDA's
we have vans with no chargers and PDA's that can't last a whole delivery0 -

Modernisation will inevitably involve cuts. Like all nationalised industry the workforce and union will resist change until it is to late and the organisation goes into terminal decline.
If the workforce was more pro-active then they would find solutions to these problems rather than moaning about them.
Agreed 2 years ago:

yes but thats an effect of modernisation
so far it has been RM's plan of modernisation
a different thing
as for being pro active,RM have no interest in input from its staff
trust me any idea is met with disinterest at best0 -
hating the posties for their greed....Post staff to hold national strikes
Postal workers are to stage two nationwide strikes next week in a bitter row over pay, jobs and working conditions, it has been announced.
About 42,000 mail centre staff and drivers will walk out next Thursday October 22 for 24 hours, followed by another 24-hour stoppage on Friday October 23 by 78,000 delivery and collection staff.
The Communication Workers Union said it had made a "genuine offer" to avert a national strike and accused the Royal Mail of rejecting it without proper consideration.
