so be proactive but shut and do your job regardless
    is that about it?

Basically yes. Put forward ideas if the management don't agree with you thats there lookout. They are running the company not you. You are paid to do a Job so do it. If you want to make management decisions start your own business. Simple eh

You should take every opportunity to put forward ideas that are helpful to the business overall not just in your own interest. Proactive means being part of the change. It seems that the union and workforce is only interested in its own immediate position and not the future of the organisation. In that case, if you are not bothered about the long term future viability of your employer then yes just get on with your job.

i have already said they are not interested in input.before the last round of 'savings' were made in my own office i raised many issues
not one was addressed bar the 'we will sort it once we get the changes in'
you know what, none have been addressed
come January we will be into the next round of national savings
when i started in RM i raised many things, nothing has changed.
heres a basic idea i raised right at the start
when we send an item with a barcode ot a post office for collection it gets scanned ot 'held at POC'
however it doesnt show which post office
i asked that we get a separate barcode for each post office.this allows it to be properly tracked if there's any queries.
never happened, same with many other ideas/proposals

you sound perfect for RM management

i am getting sick and tired of the same answers, you have read my posts?
the changes have been made by many offices
my own office has brought in all the agreed changes but its not enough for RM
every day is a battle of a manager telling you that you have X amount of spare time so you can do X extra
you can do all those extra packets because mails down
you have time to do those extra D2D items on your increased rounds because mail is down
all we(me?) want is a realistic approach to this.

Custardly, you won't win against people who are hell bent on telling us to do our job and get on with it  They are not interested in listening to how the changes are affecting 1. The posties or 2. The business.

Who gets the abuse from the public because of missing letters? Who gets the abuse because of parcels being late? Who gets all the abuse for everything? So yes, I actually think we have every right to have our say on this, after all, it's us that get moaned at when we don't finish a delivery round until the afternoon because we've been held up, it aint the managers. I actually love my job. Love getting out and about meeting people. Don't like the British weather much, but there's not a lot I can do about that. Change is needed, no one denies that, but let's make sure it's not at the expense of the business or putting the posties at risk of injury because their bags are overweight.

If you worked in Tesco you would get moaned at for the queue at checkouts or if an item is out of stock, all sorts of gripes that the general public have on a daily basis, it is a fact of life. Cant say I have ever heard of Tesco employees going on strike or any other supermarket for that matter.

Same in hotels, no chance of hotel workers striking is there!!

Personally I have never seen a Postman struggling to carry a bag of letters.

I'm not telling you your Job. I am saying you are paid to do a Job so you should either do it or maybe look for another one.

everyone in every job gets some form of abuse. I used to work in the NHS I have been punched and had a Knife held against my throat for trying to do my Job. So a little bit of moaning from customers is nothing to complain about. Due to this and what I considered poor management I didn't strike. I left and started my own business

Striking is doing more damage to this business than any of these changes ever will. What people need to realise that all this strike is , is the union leaders trying to justify there salaries (a lot more than the average RM worker). The only people that will win from this are the Government (who desperately want to offload RM) and the union leaders. When there are huge Job losses because of the loss of business and the inevitable complete sell off of RM I will try not to say I told you so (although I might)

Your misinformation on the issues at hand are staggering. Go and read about some of these issues around the strike and you'd perhaps be a little understanding.
  • are the strikes going ahead today...who exactly are on strike can i post items?

The posties are mullered IMHO, and the CWU leaders have led them straight into the trap. The fact that 30,000 blackleg workers in the ad-hoc mail centres are keeping an minimal service running means that the management will win out. The situation is the same as Scargill not seeing the significance of the massive coal stockpiles at the power stations arranged by Thatcher.
