Royal Mail know that these firms will come back after the strikes are over because they will not be able to offer people free delivery.

John Lewis said we will offer other delivery options but there will be a charge.

They dont offer free delivery anyway they all charge 2.95 and 3.95 etc and normally post via standard post or recorded depending on value of item.

I have to say that the service provided by people like DHL etc is much better and more reliable than that provided by R.M!

At my work we sent out a lot of bulky sets of paper work to regular people and have decided that its more reliable and that they arrive in far better condition to pack all the stuff up and send via a courier once a week, we get gauranted delivery next day, it works out cheaper and the things we send dont end up getting damaged in the post. We only send our small letters via royal mail and if we could send them another way we would!!!

My experience of dhl on more than one occasion has been downright diabolical....they managed to lose a camera and lens worth over 1K! They very kindly carded my upstairs neighbour, who brought it to us....then when delivery was re-arranged,.....they delivered it to another house halfway down the street:mad: - and that's just one example of how bad they are.

I call them DHH*LL....and I won't buy from a company who uses them to deliver.

On the flip side...my print supplier uses rm recorded (normally) and I never ever have any problem getting my photographs.

Don't know if it's the same around the country but in my office(Derby) we are adjoined to the Mail Centre, so as to not cross the picket line all functions in Derby are on strike today, but back to work tomorrow.

its down to that office how its handled
whether they go all on the 1st or 2nd day.
i think they usually all go on the 1st day as there are few feeds to the MC to work with
