You do know that the picture of the ball on the John Lewis website is not actually for the ball, it is for the playset which could be the surfboard, skateboard or ball, you can't choose, they do... so you don't know what you are getting till it arrives.:snow_laug Maximouse loves the build up to Christmas :santa2:0 -

Does anyone know if there's much point going to shops such as John Lewis and Hamleys? Are they likely to have stuff in the shops, even if sold out online?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Both seem to have their stock intermittently. Best option is obviously to ring first thing in the morning to see if they have had a delivery in overnight and if so, ask them if they could reserve something and you could go and pick it straight up.:snow_laug Maximouse loves the build up to Christmas :santa2:0 -
Good idea, thanks very much. I live in central London, so could phone first thing and get there within half an hour....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Wow. All trace of these have now vanished from my local Tesco, Asda, Argos, Toys R Us, Tesco Extra, Sainsbury's. They were hard to get a few weeks ago, now even the lables are being removed by some stores!
SE London area by the way...0 -

Morning all :hello: Well I woke up early so I went onto EVERY website (and as you old timers know, there is a quite a few of them!) that we've found stock on previously to see if there was any update I could give you. Well, its a down-date actually, absolutely nothing, not a sniff, on any of the sites.
So it appears that until www.Character-online.com get their stock in of balls, surfboards, and skateboards around 18/11 and beds and carriers around 18/12 (free delivery on orders over £25 - keep an eye on their stock checker http://www.character-online.com/Go-Go-Pets-Stock/) and until www.wilkinsonplus.com get their stock in and post their hamsters online (they've never listed the other bits that you can sometimes get in store - the good thing about when they do get stock in is that they have a deliver to store option hence no P&P - I posted the other day that Wilkinsons chain is getting just over 2000 hamsters in and they will be in the shops probably by 17/11. Then he told me that the warehouse was also expecting houses and playsets (surfboard, skateboard, ball) in this order so they might be in SOME branches of Wilkinsons as well depending on which shops have placed an order to stock these) that the best online places to keep checking, that seem to be drip feeding stock on to their sites, are www.toysrus.co.uk (I actually haven't seen them list anything for ages and even when they do, blink and you'll miss it), www.argos.co.uk (home delivery has been out of stock for ages but you could do the local store check in case there is any availability in your area), www.johnlewis.com (has listed houses and playsets which are the surfboard, skateboard, ball, a couple of times recently - but be warned the picture for the playsets is of the ball and that is not what you are ordering, you are ordering a playset which THEY choose and ringing up won't let you chose either - they also do free delivery to store), www.boots.co.uk (haven't had any houses or hamsters on site for a couple of weeks so their stock must be imminent as they told me they do have them on order - they also do free delivery to store), www.play.com (they suddenly listed the wheel, slide and car yesterday, but don't bother ringing them because the call centre staff only have access to the webpage you view, so they have no idea when stock may be posted - their prices on this latest batch were RRP with free P&P). Oh, and remember the famous 'coming soon' on the vast majority of sites probably means 2010 and don't bother clicking on any 'inform me when in stock' buttons on any of the sites, because apart from one site, who is no longer expecting stock, none of the others sent out ANY e mails at all - apparently there is a cost associated with it so due to the millions of people clicking on the buttons, I think they are just not bothering because by the time the person reads the e mail, the stock will have gone anyway.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ and www.ebay.co.uk
Everything ‘at a price’. Read the descriptions very carefully to double check whether the items you are ordering are actually in stock and does the picture match the description - i.e. the picture might show 4 hamsters, but the listing might actually be for one. Check the RRP on the toysrus website before deciding whether you want to pay these prices. However, if you think about it, if you ordered these items online, you may well have paid around £4 to £5 P&P, and there is the personal cost: how much time (think of being paid at the minimum wage for each hour you've spent on this quest) and effort you have you spent trying to locate the item including parking costs and petrol - not to mention the stress of it all. You may find its actually cheaper just to get one off these sites.
www.character-online.com is the importer /distributor of the go go products for the UK so if they get an order in (as mentioned above), then an allocation of the same items may also go to some of the shops online and in the high street (shortly after character get the stock) if they have made orders. So if character are not getting any more add ons into the country before Christmas, then there will be no new stock of these items to distribute either.
I think some shops have some stocks left (minimal by now I would think) but they are choosing to drip feed it into some of their stores / online in the lead up to Christmas. The best bet at the minute seems to be if you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to get odd bits and pieces that are in the shops - and gone within seconds...
Forum users have mentioned getting things in store at SOME branches (not all stock go go hamster items) of: Toymaster shops, Smyths Toy shops, local small toy shops, Boots, Wilkinsons, Sainsburys, Tescos, Asda, TJ Hughes, John Lewis, Hamleys and Harrods. And of course, toysrus and argos. Its always best to ring as soon as the shop opens to see if they got any deliveries of the Go Go products overnight before wasting your time going there in person.
Tips:
Best thing to do is, if you are watching a particular site, and they have the option for you to register (i.e. get a user name and password and to store your address details etc) then if your register and anything gets listed, you can log in quickly and your address details will already be there, and you'll save time and reduce the risk of your basket emptying whilst you are madly trying to type your details in. If you have pre-warning that something is going to be listed at a particular time, go onto the site beforehand and log in, then just keep refreshing until the item appears then grab it. If when you look at your basket, there is only one item and you ordered 2, don't waste time going back to try and add another as the likelihood is that there is only one in there because there is no longer 2 left. If you don't check out then, then that will also disappear... Also, take note of any things in the description that say, for example, only 2 per order, as if you try to add more and think you've got away with it, your order will be probably be cancelled. Happy hamster hunting...
