I am getting married this Saturday 28th August and i cannot get hold of anyone from swags and sashes.
I too was shocked today when i tried to call, only to hear that there only contact number was no longer accepting incoming calls.
I called Southend Trading Standards today who advise that i can try and claim compensation through the breach of contract rule. But that still doesnt help me with the fact that i now have no chair covers for my wedding in 5 days times!!
I have sent one last email threatening small claims court but i doubt i will get a reply. If any of you get a response in the next few days i would be grateful if you could update your post.

I have been trying for weeks to get hold of them i have sent letters asking them to ring me i have phoned and agree the phone number is now no longer in service, i had e-mailed and get no response, i have had trading standards go and check them out a couple of weeks ago, all seemed ok, but the did tell trading standards that they had been trying to contact me but could not get an answer, my daughters wedding is next weekend the 4th sept.. it looks like we will not get the covers now. But they may turn up so it's a catch 22 if i go else where i will loose if they don't turn up i loose, but everyone please report them to south end on sea trading standard then may be they can shut them down, doing this to someones Wedding is really the worst thing they can do spoiling peoples big day this way.....Kim Smith

I have just spoken to trading standards Gereldine Vint (southend on sea) she is so nice and very helpfull she has been to see swags and sashes today she said they are very busy getting ready for weddings this weekend, she has told them it's not good to not have a phone for incomming calls, but the owner was not there, as yet they have not breached any contracts so they can't do anything, we all just have to hope they turn up on the day... my daughters wedding is next weekend 4th Sept... i will keep you all posted if they turn up.... but anyone new DO NOT USE !!! SWAGS AND SASHES you can't trust them to get back to you or turn up on the day... None of us need this stress so close to our specail day's... good luck everyone!!
  • Hi Everyone,
Im new to the forum, having read all posts, I thought I had better add to it with my experience of Swags & Sashes.
I booked them to provide chair covers for my wedding in september. The booking was made in December 2009, at the time of booking I paid 50% deposit. I thought that everything was fine. It was until a couple of months ago I needed to contact them to see when final payment was due, that alarm bells started ringing. At this time someone was answering the phone to take messages, I was informed that this was due to high demand and that someone would contact me and a final invoice would be sent to me.

Well nearly 3 months later I have heard nothing after endless phone calls & emails to this company I have had no joy. I contacted my local trading standards they informed me i needed to speak to Consumer Direct. They were great they told me exactly what I needed to do. They advised me to send a letter by recorded delivery to the address on their website and the address that is held by Companies House. This is what I did 3 weeks ago, 3 days after sending my letter. I get a random email from Kathyrn, with no apology just a final invoice!!! After looking at the invoice, they had increased the price from what was stated on my original purchase invoice! ( What worried me even more, was that I read someone else's post on here to say that Kathryn had been made redundant but my email from her was dated the 18th August!!) Some things just don't add up with this company!

I referred this email to consumer direct who advised me that they were now in breach of contract due to ammending figures without agreement. I send another letter again recorded mail asking for deposit back, or I would pursue legal action but haven't had any reply. It was only today that I triad calling them again, to find that they no longer recieve incoming calls. How can you run a business without a phone line!!!! So unfortunately due to the fact I can't deal with anymore stress, I have purchased my own chair covers with coloured sashes. It has cost me a small fortune, but I don't think I could deal with the not knowing if Swags & Sashes are going to turn up on the day! I sympathize with all of you that are going through the same nightmare as me!

If I have any contact with the company I will update my post.
  • Well where can i start !!

I paid this company to dress my brothers wedding on fri 27th aug.

Everything they supplied was either wrong or of the poorest quality i have ever seen, im sure the childrens playgroup could have done better. They now have no incoming phoneline so my husband is going to come down there with me on tues as we only live 5 mins away so i will let you all know !

I ordered a personalised post box which did not even appear
I ordered balloons inside balloons but only got normal pearlised balloons, I had a phone call from a young girl who was at the venue on the day doing the balloons asking where we wanted them to go and when i questioned her about not having the right ones she got very stroppy and told me she was only doing what "charlie" had asked her to do and to speak with her. Which makes me wonder if this was a regular occurance !

I did come into contact with a lady who worked for them on the thursday who was at the venue doing some preperation she told me that she had only worked for them for 3 weeks. I had to change the way she had done things as they were wrong but didnt really mind as she was very helpful and didnt really see anything finished.

The garland which i paid £45 for which was supposed to go up a staircase with an ivory swag was really cheap and tacky there was no swag and the garland was plastic flowers on a piece of wire ! and it didnt even reach the end of the rail !! As for the centerpieces they were nothing like the pics advertised on the internet.

All in all our bride was really upset as we could have done a much better job ourselves what a complete waste of money !! This was supposed to be my wedding present to my brother and his new wife !!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE RUBBISH !!!
  • DO NOT USE SWAGS AND SASHES. I can not stress this enough.
They are the most horrendous company out there.
We paid them to provide ivory chair covers and centrepieces. In the run up to the big day, as everyone else has stated, you cant get hold of them for love nor money. They no longer accept incoming calls and they dont return emails.
I personally went to the office on FOUR separate occasions asking for some sort of contact. Each time I was promised an email, which never came. My mum went in there the Monday before our wedding to make sure they were still coming etc and to confirm everything ( I had just given up with them after sooooo many failed attempts at begging them to contact me ), to be told that nobody could deal with her or answer any questions because 'Charlie' ( the 'boss'!!!! ) was at 'V Festival'!!!!!!!! ( I hope she had a lovely time whilst I was at home stressing my head off, worrying about whether they would even turn up! )

Well, anyway, they did turn up. The chair covers were ok. Some were more yellow than ivory, but I was just so relieved at that point that they had even turned up.
The centrepieces were NOT anything like we had discussed with them. In the beginning of booking them, I personally went to the office and sat with them for a few hours playing around with centrepieces until I got it exactly how we wanted.
Well, the centrepieces we had were hideous. My 5 year old niece couldve put these together. ( I'm not even lying! )
We had ordered lots of tealights to surround the centrepieces, which were not there and the centrepieces were absolutely NOTHING like we had put together.
The mirrors and glass vases they provided even still had big blue stickers on from the manufactureres! I was embarrassed to have them on the tables.

I am so disgusted that they can treat people like this and mess with the most important day of someone's life.
We are currently in touch with trading standards and will take it further to a small claims court as well.

Sorry for the lengthy post people, but I can not stress how angry I was and still am.
I just wouldnt want any of you to book with them when I know what they're like!

So, spread the word, DO NOT USE SWAGS AND SASHES.
  • Hi i had an email from them on the 23rd but their website says they no longer take in bound calls!
Im awaiting a refund and compensation from them as they sent me the wrong sized table cloths (which were all stained anyway) and the chair covers were filthy and lots of them had stains too.
I still have all their linen in boxes in my bedroom! i want my money back before i send their linen back.
i tried to call them as soon as the stuff arrived the day before my wedding to say it was the wrong size but no one would answer the phone. i've only been able to communicate through e mail since. They told me they would refund and compensate me but since reading all this i wont hold my breath.
Consumer Direct have told me to send a letter by recorded delivery requesting a letter back from them with the amount they will refund and compensate me and then i should send the linen back but i really dont know whether to because i dont think they'll keep their word. I should of known at the beginning when they sent me the wrong invoice 3 times and then laughed about it when i rang them to tell them their mistake.
Karina let us know how you got on.

    Bas****s!!!

Just to let people know that we had Swags n Sashes booked to do our wedding yesterday (4th Sept) and we only found out that we had problems when our venue rang at 12 noon to say that no-one had turned up to decorate the place, our wedding was at 1pm!!!

Thankfully our venue staff drove to a local supplier and bought lots of gear and did it themselves and in time, and to there credit it was awesome, really beautiful.

The part that gets my goat is that they sent their final demand last week, which we paid, as before that point we had regular emails and phone calls from an 'Alex' telling us that all was well and that was their procedure regarding payment!!

Luckily we have wedding insurance which may cover us, but i'm not too sure what else we can do to get a refund, so please anyone with advice please help!!:(
