A Fool and Her Money- CAFCGIRL's Debt Diary

Hi CAFCGirl - been lurking for a while, but not posting.
Been there - since moving to my new garden I've had a lodger. Wasn't too bad at first, but some habits that are almost enough to make me scream - strange that it's only the little things that cause the problems! Had similar problems with people I've shared with in the past (including an ex) - finally came to the conclusion that the only solution is to get up the courage to talk to them... But I'm a wimp, so never have:embarasse
Have you tried talking to her? First thought is what is your situation - are you joint tenants? Or are you/her a lodger? If you're the lodger, there isn't much you can doOtherwise, try talking to them - it takes a lot of courage to bring up the subject, be prepared for them to have some complaints about your conduct  Though it does help to have an explanation of why things annoy you...

I'm much like yourself, and a bit of a wimp.
I generally just quietly moan to myself, but given recent goings on, I know keeping it bottled up wont help me in the long run!
I havent tried talking to her directly, mainly because one of the main issues is that her best friend is continuously at the flat. Now I know everyone has got friends (apart from me, I do nothing lol!) but she's here from 5pm, when she finishes work, till the early hours, and then back again the next day. They take over the living room, and the SKY tv, lol, so I end up feeling like I cant be in the living room, since they take up the sofa and chair themselves!
So I end up spending my evening, from when I get home, till I go to bed, practically hiding out in my bedroom and I just dont think thats fair.
The situation is, we used to work together, then I got a new job and left. We stayed friends and my then flatmate moved out rather quickly leaving me a bit stuck. I sounded her out, and she jumped at the chance.
It's a joint tenancy, but I guess I kinda do see it as more my place, since Ive been here longer (3 years) and literally everything in it is mine, aside from her bedroom furniture. I'm the one whose decorated and furnished etc!
The other thing that bugs me is I somehow ended up paying (at asda) not only for my budget! shopping but her and her friends dinner because I went back to get something whilst we were at the checkout and it all got put thru together, and I've had no money back for it! Plus they've been eating the stuff that I did buy for myself!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Not got much time - about to go off and spend some money  (still, only another 6 weeks and it'll be income, not expenditure)...
Try and catch her when her friend isn't there. First thing in the morning? Try something like - I know it's probably just slipped your mind, but could I have the money for the shopping?. I find asking for money one of the hardest things to do from friends - and have in the past not bothjered about debts because of it (oh, I wish I had that money now...)FWLBM - 1st Sept 06 - Debts: around £80k (not entirely sure...:o )0 -
Exactly!
I know I've got to give myself the courage to do it!
I dont know why I feel guilty for it, it's my money!
Guess its an overall attitude change, which will aid me no end with the whole battle to become debt free! Will make effort to ask her for it tomorrow....... or maybe I'll leave a note somewhere?
Cowards option? I guess.......... but I'm weak!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

THIS MUST STOP!
Anyone got any tricks for controlling themselves!
You could some of those security stickers and attach it to your bag. That way the alarm goes off when you go into the shop.

I dont know how but my spending diary was seemingly replaced with my debit card!
They're now all back in their rightful places!
Im getting all Hitler on my a$$ again. No spend days till sunday!
Of course ignoring the DD's and card payments I have to make for bills!
Will also get money back from flatmate, will no longer be said ol' (skint!) spinster a la Bridget Jones!
BTW I made another spreadsheet today! I'm glad to know the 5 years of IT at school have taught me how to create formulas........... now if only I had Excel!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Anyone know where the fat one and the bald bloke off spendaholics, got those stickers they stuck to that woman's credit card? Had pictures of St Lucia, so everytime she went to use it, her dream was right in her face?
I think that could work for me!
I could just scribble in black marker "DEBT FREE!"Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
