i was on prozac for a while a few years ago ..i found it gave me breathing space ..i was depressed for so long ..but not showing it..and didn't want help to fix it ...so i tried everything i could..more excercise/gardening/the obvious spending money ..nothing worked ..i'm not sure even if the prozac worked for me ..but when given it i thought to my self ..well girl youve done everything you could and it didn't work so take the damb tablets(i did'nt want to take them) and give them a chance ..and for some reason..i didn't feel as stressed and it was instant so it wasn't the tablets ..i think it was the fact that i was no longer hiding it and could just let them do there job so to speak ..was only on them for a few months till i got my breathing space and figured out what had caused the depression in the first place ...then i worked on that ..never looked back..so please give them a chance...sorry if that doesn't make any sense i'm not to good at putting thoughts into words..all the best

New worry is that I wont get any sick pay from work this week, so my pay will be a whole week down, so I dont think I'm actually going to be able to pay everything.any advice on that, anyone?

Do you have any holidays left to take? You might be able to take them instead of losing money if you arent entitied to sick pay.

Well I think theyre going to avoid paying SSP by stating that I'm off because of industrial action against me, but I'm signed off with depressive episode, so I'm not sure how that'll work.
They wont let me take it as holiday either as I'm signed off now from doc, its being recorded as sick leave. Theyre just being really picky with me now because of the disciplinary.
Should be getting a phone call tomorrow giving me a little insight into what they decided, hoping the worse I get is a written warning.

I'm just gonna have to try and live on next to nothing I think. They may surprise me and pay the SSP but I'm just preparing myself for the absolute worse!

  • I agree with Elantan, you should take the tablets, I have also been on Prozac (well they were fluoxetene, Prozac is a brand name) and I must say they helped me enormously, they are probably a low dose, and I promise you they will help, although they do suppress your appetite, so if you aren't eating well they could cause more issues.

It's not nice being in a dark place known as depression, and I have suffered a few episodes myself, and now know the symptoms as soon as they surface, but feel strong enough to over-ride them, (this takes a lot of time, and practise but you will get there) I had severe anxiety attacks, very physical ones, the side of my face would tingle, and the tingling would spread ( felt like I had been to the dentist and the local was wearing off.....literally numb to the touch) my hands would tingle and feel tight, like the knuckles needed cracking, and my heart would beat very irregularly, and I couldn't breathe in properly.............of course you panic which makes it worse, and so the circle of the attack begins...........

It will help to take the prescription meds, as depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, and these meds are designed to rebalance it.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Nah, they cant do that chick, yes you are having industrial action, but as yet you have not been found guilty of anything,. It's law again, I can send the guidance across if it helps.
They will still pay the SSp.

Ah I found written somewhere in my employee handbook, and on the government website too that if you're off ill due to industrial action being taken against you, SSP may not be paid?

Nah, we need to clarify, industrial action is when somebody goes on strike, or walks out of a building-Then, there is a remote possibility they may not get paid. What you are facing is disciplinary action. Totally different process, and it is illegal to stop SSP over that.
Sorry my last post weren't clear. I'm hot and stuff ;-)
