Think my prob is that my debts aren't "unmanageable" - I earn a decent salary so manage to tick along... so don't think I've had any kind of lightbulb moment as yet...

having said that, since first joining the forum in May I haven't put anything on credit! so, whilst I may not be doing everything I can to lower my debt, it's not getting any bigger either!!

anyway, sorry for hijacking with my boring tales... will go now!

keep up the good work... bet the new job will help you reduce that debt in no time!

    Hey Polly,

Its good to heat how yours are going too. Keep us updated.

I dont see my as unmanageable either. They all get more than their minimum, but not to the lengths others have managed. Which makes me quite envious.

I'm not totally sure I've had the full on lightbulb. I know how much I owe and to who, I'm not missing any payments anymore.
I'm only in arrears on the council tax by £83, but I'm waiting for flatmate to come back from ireland to get her share of bill money, which will be in about a week.Plus I've let the council know.

Bills are all up to date, part from paying my mobile phone bill.Must remember to do that! Looks like the money for nothing cheques will have to go into my current acc, to clear that bill.

I'll owe the new york fund £82.50, next month. From paypal money thats been eaten up by debts/phone bill. I keep hoping next month itll all be easier with higher wage!

mine don't get more than their minimum at the moment :o I don't actually have much debt on credit cards and what I do have is on 0% at the moment... but should be aiming to clear that asap so I can start saving up to settle my loan which is the big worry...

one day I'll pluck up the courage to post a full SOA on here and get it pulled apart from all the other DFWs... I'm trying to change jobs at the mo and so maybe that will spur me on...

I keep thinking "I'm only 25 I've got forever to pay this back..." but that's SO the wrong attitude!

think you're doing well though... must be frustrating having to dip into the NYC fund but it's better going on your debts - the sooner they're cleared, the sooner you get to go to New York New York :j

Thats what I keep telling myself. Pay the debts, get to New York!!!!

I've calculated that excluding my loan, which is non-flexi, all my debts could be paid within 9 months, which is based on paying back £250 to these per month.
Which should be more than achievable.
I've got all the enthusiasm, but lack that extra spur to see it through to the end.

I'd honestly say though Polly, an SOA isnt for people to pull apart, I know some people do but in a productive way and thats mainly because theyve been working hard at theirs for a long time previous and so have worked out to the bare minimum how to do things.
However my only suggestion is that you have to really think long and hard about what you truly want. Posting for help and then saying oh no I cant give up x.y.z etc, wont help and to an extent people would stop helping so much.

It sometimes comes across as harsh, but theres no point wasting your own time as well as others, asking for help that you dont really want.

I guess what I mean is, you've got to be ready to hear, objectively what others have got to say. And know that 9 times out of 10 its written to help not hinder.

Good luck with the job hunt too.All the best, hope you find something that pays well and that you'll enjoy!

I know, you're totally right... and I think that's why I'm avoiding it at the moment!! :o

from reading this board, I know all the things I need to give up... and I just don't feel ready to do so! need to give myself a big kick up the @ss! I know the majority on here will be super helpful and supportive and I will do it eventually, when I know I'm not going to be wasting anybody's time! In the meantime, I'm picking up loads of tips from other posters and have begun changing my ways... one day I'll be brave enough to hear what I know I need to hear!!
