Halifax Reward Account - multiple applications

  • Hi peeps,

I have 3 normal current accounts and have been to my local branch and was told I can only turn one into a Reward Account, which I promptly did.

I now have 1 Reward and 2 normal Current. My question is:

Can I open two more Reward accounts in addition to the above, so will have 5 in total, 3 Reward and 2 normal (which I will close in due course)?

Has anyone else done anything like this or is there a limit to the total number of accounts one can have?

    Neil.

I already did that, then I applied for a 2nd one which has been accepted but they need my id verified whenever I apply for anything

I have just spoke to a lady and she said it seems that parts of my accout shows that I'm alread id verified but for some reason its not letting it happen every time, they are trying to sort it
    Thanx

I don't believe what the branch told you is correct.

At present customers are allowed a maximum of 3 reward accounts.
That changes to one sole and one joint on 1st November.

    It's worth calling telephone banking on 08457 20 30 40
and asking them to redesignate the other two to reward accounts.
If they say you can only have one then remind them that the current T+Cs allow three.

Otherwise there is no stated limit on the total number of accounts of different types you can hold.

Definitely going to do this when I get home - I have a couple of accounts with HBoS and neither are reward accounts, will apply for a Reward account when I get home, then try and upgrade my other 2 accounts to Reward ones - the instant transfer facility is handy online, instant so would be good do all transfers immediately once the accounts have been opened!

Thanks to everyone in this thread, some very helpful info that I didn't know - I was looking forward to getting £5 a month, but £15 seems better :D

They have just told me on the phone that it must be an error that my daughter is able to fund any accounts that she opens online with halifax, they said you can only do that when the documents have been signed but listening here she isnt the only one that can do that they opbviously have it on thier online systems to be able to do it.

Its like when she opened her isa a window popped up saying which account would you like to fund your isa with now, she selected one and it went straight in but I never got that option I have to wait for paperwork and sign and go in branch which in my case causes big problems
    Thanx

Finally got someone who actually took the trouble to get it sorted at least on this one anyway not sure if I'll still be affected on any future accounts (any kind) with Halifax. The 2nd account is now funded. The declined one is still in my account as declined but I'm hoping that it wont affect my re applying for the 3rd account again. I guess this will be the time I find out if the problem has been cured or not if it has I'll be able to fund straight away if its not I'll have the whole saga to go through again

Do you think its better to wait till tomorrow to re-apply for the 3rd account as she said it would take overnight to be updated on thier system and do you think having that declined account in my account will make it seem like I already have 3 reward accounts and be a problem when re applying for the 3rd?
    Thanx

I haven't even been sent anything to sign for any of our six accounts, they were all validated electronically and funded the same way.

A few days later, I did received a letter suggesting I sent a cheque for £100 to fund the account in order to generate the debit card and PIN, but did say they could also be funded other ways and, as I had done so, I threw the letters away. Debit cards and PINs arrived soon afterwards.

NB - slight correction: the only thing I've been sent that I had to sign was, of course, the debit card for each account!

Signed in online, opened 3 accounts, funded them, internal transfered it twice, all done! Will expect £15 a month for nothing and no loss of funds!

I didn't even do that. I cut up the cards, and phoned up Halifax to cancel them & not send replacements.

No point having a potential fraud risk open, you never know what could happen...
