Maybe that's the case, however in the past week all we have experienced are the call centre staff being obstructive, difficult and in two instances downright rude. I recognise 3 calls is a very small sample size.

I really wish our experience to date with the call centre had been different.

I can understand why you would agree with the branch member of staff, but I'm making you aware of the motivations, and not be so naive as to believe such a statement. It is the height of un-professionalism to denounce a large group of colleagues in front of a customer, and (for me anyways) would undermine their very operation.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

I'm an existing Halifax online customer, applied for my first Reward account last Saturday and was accepted immediately.

Decided to bite the bullet and applied for my 2nd tonight and have been accepted.

Have litterally just been accepted on my 3rd application.

They are definately still accepting applications through online banking!

Hmm. I tried to open my 3rd reward account online last night, and mrs.t tried for a 2nd one this morning. In both cases, we seem to have ended up with non-reward current accounts. But the application page still says you are allowed 3 accounts.

Just received a leaflet from halifax this morning talking about the changes, and that suggests having more than one current account to help with budgeting, and gives a phone number for upgrading from non-reward current account to reward current account. So I'll give that a go. Or I might brave the branch, but don't really feel like getting into an argument.

the system was running slow (which it was during my application).
Experian do not process credit searches after 20:30 and do not resume until 06:00 the following morning.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

When you first open them, they show up under 'My accounts' as non-Reward accounts. This happened with our 2nd and 3rd a/cs, and it's been commented on in these forums, possibly in this thread.

After a day or so, they display as Reward a/cs.

Just got round to setting up my 3 in the branch without problem. They did however say the will only pay the £5 on 2 after the 6th December when the 1 sole & 1 joint comes in; but couldn't find the document which says this will be applied to existing account holders, so I thought it was worth a punt

Sounds like they've given you incorrect information. The changes on the 6th of December do not relate to the Reward Current Account. The updated terms and conditions (effective 01/11/09) do state you are only allowed one sole and one joint Reward.

That said, there are no plans to downgrade or close accounts for those with more than two. My personal view is that at some point in the near future they will restrict all customers to two Reward Current Accounts (it is only fair). But I don't think it's going to happen too soon because of the major current account changes in December , and I would have thought a detrimental change would require two months notice.

Thanks - just read through your posting on the changes - can you clarify what a "statement month is" - I had assumed the "month" was calendar so was gonna chunk my £1000s through at the beginning of the month as I do with the vantage accs.

A 'month' is a calendar month. If £1000 is received during one calendar month (in either one transaction, or split over many), then £5 will be paid on the 2nd of the following month, but backdated to the 1st. The money can come from any source (i.e. internal OR external transfer is fine).

My experiance was similar to Biggles, the accounts showed as standard current accounts immediately after applying for them. The next day they were displayed as Reward Current Accounts.
