This is a bacteria called 'Serratia marcescens'.
A friend of mine got it after having a new bathroom/shower installed in her home and I remember feeling very sorry for her and all her attempts to get rid of it. However, a couple of months later, I moved into a newbuild property and within a couple of weeks found myself with the same orangey/pink deposits appearing around MY taps/showerhead/anywhere that water collected. It really is a damn nuisance and is nothing to do with how well you clean the place.
Here's a link to find out a bit more about it:

Flylady's wipe and swipe helped me. First I spray the toilet and seat and leave it - then I wipe and swipe all the other surfaces with a cloth - it could be rinsed in a dilute solution of bleach and cleaner - washing up liquid is okay. Over all the bath/shower/tiles.
Because this is done every day it can be done in one go as there is no build up of dust to mean the cloth doesn't have to be rinsed out in the middle.
I use toilet paper to wipe the previously sprayed toilet - cistern, outer toilet bowl, seat and rims.
You can use a soft cloth to wipe down the bath/shower and taps which gets rid of marks - this adds a few more minutes to the job.
Every day, this takes 10 minutes. I also go over the floor to pick up dust/hair, with a bit of toilet paper.
I hate having anything sitting on the surfaces as they have to be moved and hold up the cleaning process. Now we are in rental and there is no bathroom cabinet so I put all the things in the bath while I do the sink. I also give them a wipe as the sticky catches the dust.
I keep as much as I can in an old ice cream carton which I don't clean out so often.0 -
As an experienced househusband, I am fed up with the noticable degredation in quality and performance of cleaning products. My well known bio toilet cleaner has gone watery, as have all these pump action bathroom cleaners, that seem to be 99.9999% water. I want to experiment using my own formulations, via a garden hand sprayer maybe...am i reinventing the wheel ? Have any of you done this?0

Elbow grease beats any proprietary product
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more ideas.
