I've diluted stardrops into one of those plant mister spray things.
I find it's great for cleaning just about everything....although, I do like the smell of fresh bleach.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Lots of information and ideas on Cleaning in the Index here
and also worth looking in the Save Zillions on Cleaning Costs Thread for vinegar, bicarb etc... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I use Asda's Daily shower Cleaner with a micro fibre cloth for the bath, tiles and sink. It's about 54p a bottle I think and lasts ages. Brings everything up real shiny.
Toilet - swish and wipe with anti bac spray/ paper towel daily. Harpic/ rubber gloves and an old non scratch scourer if I've been [STRIKE]really lazy[/STRIKE], I mean really busy0 -
I moved into a house where the bath is a horrible greyish colour. The enamel seems worn and the colour is almost dirty looking. It never looks white. I would be very grateful on any tips.I think the previous person used an abrasive scouring pad which has damaged the enamel. Any ideas or do i need a new bath?“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

elaine373, our bath was damaged in a similar way with ajax powder. Nothing will clean it off, the surface is covered in fine scratches, but we had someone come out and polish it. The bath looks like new and has stayed nice since. It's a lot cheaper and easier than a new bath. I'd advise against having someone spray it however, that doesn't seem to last.
I try not to use anything abrasive on the bathroom fixtures now, you shouldn't normally need to. The strongest stuff I'll use is cream cleaner.
I normally clean the entire bathroom with soda crystals, haven't used anything else for years. Shake some down the toilet, about a tablespoon, let it soak a while (overnight even) and scrub with the brush. The toilet will sparkle! They're very good on limescale, better than the anti-limescale loo cleaners I've tried. I also use a nylon scouring pad, the nylon is much softer than the enamel bath, sink and tiles so can't scratch it. I wet it with hot water, shake a few soda crystals on and scrub the fixtures. It cleans everything really well and leaves it fresh and shiny.
The soda crystals last a very long time, and are cheap. About 50p for a Kg packet from the supermarket. They're also a lot better for the environment than the usual synthetic chemical bathroom cleaners, and result in much less packaging waste too.0 -

I just use Stardrops on everything but I'm in a soft water area and don't need to worry about limescale etc. Sorry I can't be of more help. You should post on the Old Style part of the forum or hopefully someone will move your thread over.
Same here, stardrops for everything and maybe bleach. I don't use any of the fancy expensive products now.0 -
Thank you all so much for your advice. I'm going to buy some soda crystals and stardrops and see how I get on and keep with the Harpic and use the Dettol Spray I love so much for now. Hopefully I can save some money on all the products I used to buy.
Where can you buy Soda Crystals and Stardrops?
Sorry one last query. What's best to clean a tiled floor? Also do you think I still need the toilet duck scrubs if I'm going to use Soda Crystals?0 -
You can buy them from ASDA.0

I have just cleaned my bathroom for the first time ever, which feels great! But I have two probably stupid questions.
1. Everywhere in my house where water gathers, I get strange orangey/pinky marks. So this is around the taps in the bathroom, and marks the shape of the bottoms of bottles where we have shampoos and things in the bathroom - the handwash gets it most because it hardly ever gets moved. I have just looked and it's all under my drainer in the kitchen too where the legs touch the draining rack. We do have quite hard water here (if you get used to drinking bottled/filtered, you can taste the chlorine, we have quite a high flouride content and when you run a full bath with no bubbles it looks tinged slightly blue/green! Bubble bath also doesn't bubble up very well hence my not usually bothering!) Does anyone know what causes the colour? It seems to just wipe away with some cleaner but it has started to stain the edges of the tiles in the bathroom.
2. This may be more to do with the fact the bathroom hasn't been cleaned in months - but how do you get rid of dust on bathroom things? Most of the dirt in the bathroom was really dust, tiny dead flies and tiny hairs, which had all gone soggy and grimy. I wiped all the surfaces with a damp cloth and although this got rid of most of the dust stuff it did seem to spread it around and in the fiddly bits (ie behind the toilet lid) it didn't seem to pick any up. Any tips welcome!
I also discovered multi surface cleaner doesn't work very well on glass!I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
We some times get similar sounding stains..
Usually anti bac wipes every day is good at reducing them . and regular cleaning!
We have very chalky sort of water here , we are on a hill!
Try anti bac wipes every other day or so..
Also when u clean lift things up to clean under/around it , this helps with the dust , also if you hover in a room by the bathroom just do what i do , run the nozzle around the bathroom , seems to help loads aswell
Hope that helps!!
