  • The support on this site has seen me through a very difficult time both emotionally and financially.

I have completely changed the way I grocery shop and have learnt a lot of money saving techniques.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • One of the biggest ways that this site has changed me is by knowing that I am not the only person in the world who has a limited budget. I seem to be surrounded by people driving new cars and having takeaways every Saturday night. There is something so comforting in knowing I am not the only person in the world who buys value lasagne sheets or has to get their clothes from the charity shops! Not only that but the people on here actually celebrate this kind of lifestyle and promote it as being something to be proud of. I cant tell you how much better that makes me feel.

I am now proud of being old style moneysaving - instead of slightly ashamed of it.
  • It changed my life by making me see we could afford for me to stay at home with my children and then giving me the strength to put my foot down and say noway no how am I working :)

Taught me how to make my home look less of a mess :)
taught me about Yellow Stickers which is all we eat now
I have learnt lots of new yummy recipes
I now know how to make food go further.

I really owe everyone on this site a big thank you :D I love it here

I first started using this site in 2004 and in 2005 we were able to afford for me to go back to uni and train to be a teacher by doing a PGCE. I learnt how to budget basically!

The following things have been achieved since I started spending time on here:
    • met some lovely people :D
    • accepted the store cupboard challenge!
    • played freezer roulette
    • budgetted on food
    • meal planned
    • changed energy suppliers
    • bought a house because of all of the above
    • started to overpay on our mortgage
So, not too bad really! :D

1.Saved my sanity, by finding out Im no longer alone in the fight

    2. Helped me sort my financial problems by putting me in touch with CCCS

    3. Given me a whole new world of friends.

    4. Taught me lots of new recipes, hints and tips.

I thought I was pretty savvy but really I was only scratching the surface of savvyness :rotfl:

It literally has changed my life. With the help of the alcohol thread on DFW I realised I had a drink problem and stopped.

    27 months sober.

  • I'm now over 70 and have always been (I thought) pretty frugal and organised.
This site has shown me ways in which I can make our pensions s-t-r-e-t-c-h further so that we can afford decent holidays, and I'll always be grateful for that. Because I was born so very long ago (lol) and my family never had much money, I've always cooked from scratch and avoided convenience foods - except for the odd "rush around" day - but I've found loads of new ideas to make food go even further without sacrificing nutrition and health. I just wish you lot had been here when my kids were young and had empty legs!
    Normal people worry me.

Another :T from me Kellylea - what a lovely uplifting post! I'm more than twice your age and have only just "switched on" :o but I love every moment, every small MSE victory!

MSE (especially OS) has really changed my life too. I feel in control, and although on a tight budget I feel very content these days.

Instead of letting my credit card and overdraft get higher and higher, not daring to look at the statements, I now watch my overdraft (very slowly, but still) getting smaller and my credit card balance is paid off every month with great satisfaction.

I do a price comparison before I go shopping so that I get the cheapest deals - it does take a bit more planning and effort, but just by coming home a different route, for example, I can drop by a different supermarket for a good deal.
