  • Well done on your first party!

I can see you have been bitten by the Usborne bug, great isn't it!
  • Definitely!

I'm a book lover anyway and many of my favourite childhood books were usborne - i remember the farmyard tales and the puzzle adventures vividly, as well as some titles that appear to be out of print now - in fact my biggest order at my party came from my mum and sister who were so excited to buy books for my son and nephew respectively! I think nostalgia hit them and they were squealing every time the turned a page of the catalogue to see more old favourites and memories!
Slowly working towards earning enough money (through various ventures) to live unworriedly, treat my family and sleep under a lovely roof. x

I've got a few questions/thoughts about Usborne books I'm hoping some knowledgeable person can answer / advise...

My wife is 30 weeks pregnant. We also have son who is 3 in April. My wife has worked part time since returning to work the birth of our son so we've been looking at ways to increase our household income.

As my wife is going to spend a lot of time this year at various baby groups (antenatal, Under 1s etc) she's going to be in a great position to meet lots of other mums of babies young children. This would give her an ideal opportunity to promote herself as an Usborne Organiser.

My wife already has quite a lot of friends with babies who she has met since the birth of our son. I was thinking that my wife could host a party at our house to promote what she does in the hope that some of the mothers ask her to host an event for them. Most of the friends my wife has are not friends with each other (i.e. she met them at different places) and therefore each of the friends have their own entirely separate group of friends with children...i.e. there is potentially a large number of mums who my wife has access to. Of course, some of these mums may also decide to join her team which would be great.

Also, would there be a problem with setting up a separate "educational" web site with various affiliate links that also links to the Usborne site that is provided? The address of this site could appear on business cards, promotional material, advertising on her car etc.

I guess what I am really after is some thoughts on the above from someone who has been successful with Usborne.

    Thanks

Your wife sounds like she is in an excellent position to get lots of business!

She would be able to buy a templated website from Usborne which would be personalised to her. It costs £48 for the year, but if she can get into executive club (basically by becoming a team leader), she will get her website for free.

Usborne is also a great way to socialise! I've been doing Usborne for 5.5 years and have made loads of new friends - both customers and Usborne colleagues. It's great to be able to take your little ones along to groups and earn some money whilst there.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the quick response! We've considered some of the other direct sales opportunities but feel that Usborne is ideal because children's books are of interest to us plus she's got direct contact with those who would be interested. I think this is a really good opportunity!

Do you have a templated web site? If so, is it worth it? By that I mean for the online sales part? I work in IT and also have developed web sites outside of work so i'd be reluctant to pay £48 a year for what is effectively just an advert. I could set up a site for free with my existing host and keep that up to date.
  • I use a facebook page too, and this has generated a lot of leads for me. Great as it is totally FREE!

I would suggest your wife goes for it, if she is happy to host her own party she will cover her starter kit, plus achieve her FS1 - get her extra free books for this and get 20% of the sales in free books. Win win win!

thanks for the reply. I can see facebook being a good tool..perhaps twitter just to post a few tweets of events she's attending.

The only problem that she's got is when to start...With a baby due 28th May there is no point in starting yet as it'll be difficult to hit the targets to get the £38 starter kit refunded.

I find the templated website an invaluable tool to point customers to. I've had the odd sale from it, but more importantly I'm able to point potential recruits there, and people can see the complete catalogue etc, and any special offers I have available.

And yes - Facebook is fab isn't it Lesley!! I've had 3 friends contacting me about joining in the past couple of weeks this way! :D

As per Usborne's terms and conditions, we are no longer allowed to have our own website apart from the templated ones. You are allowed to have your own page that points to your templated website. There were problems in the past where people's website were so out of date, that they have found this way to be better.

Definitely wait to start when she's 100% ready so that she can give it a good go towards her flying start steps. Lots of free books too!
