  • Anyone still on here who is still doing Usborne Books? I'm about to take the plunge and set up in my area and would love to chat to others and share tips and experiences. There are threads for other work at home groups like Avon and such to support each other and discuss things, so I thought it would be nice for any Usborne-ers to do something similiar?
Slowly working towards earning enough money (through various ventures) to live unworriedly, treat my family and sleep under a lovely roof. x

Newbie here. Been reading this thread with interest, and considering signing up with Usbourne. My kids have several Usbourne books and I know they're lovely and I have done Creative Memories in the past so happy enough with parties etc. But still trying to work out if this is for me. Am a bit unsure about potential earnings and how long it might take to start earning a reasonable income. I am always a bit concerned about approaching friends and family for sales and parties (which I guess you need to do in the early days).

Anyone want to share an amazing success story to inspire me?
  • All I can say is that the first few months were slow for me ( I felt like I was constantly asking friends to have parties) I never went anywhere without a business card and a catalogue! After 6 months my phone became hot with bookings. Now I am in Exec club and 3 times a week Head office send me leads for me to give to my team, I LOVE IT!
I have met some fantastic people and made some great friends, bought a fridge and a range cooker with my commision and been on some great travel incentives.

For £38 if you love the books, join, have your own party and take it from there. You will get to keep your books and you might just get teh bug and carry on!

Nice to see you've found the Usborne thread :) Obviously been chatting to you on your other thread ;)

Have just replied to your email with lots of info which will hopefully help you make your decision. We have our own divisional forum where lots of Usborners give each other advice etc. which is helped me and my team no end.

    Good luck!

    Hi Jen,

I joined 5.5 years ago when my daughter was 4 months and I didn't really know many people with children. I knew that I wanted to make a really good go of this business, so I just asked everyone I knew to help me get my new venture off the ground by hosting parties, taking catalogues into their workplaces etc etc and it took off from there.

You will start off earning 24-26% commission from day one, which can then grow quite considerably if you decide to recruit your own team. How much you earn depends on how much effort you put in, but if you have a rough idea of how much you want to earn, I can give you an idea of how many parties/events you will need to do a week.

And as Lesley says.... you will soon probably get the Usborne Bug :j

I found that it was brilliant to start - I was team leader nearly straight away, and then one of my recruits was team leader quickly afterwards, but I don't drive and I have bad hips so I have started getting a bit fed up with pushing a pram full of books about. I'm still doing it though, and it has really helped my career in general.
Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March
    Current total - £779 banked by 09/04/11
Also growing, scrimping and crafting to not need as much in the first place!

Thanks all for your replies. I am inclined to do as you say, Lesley, and sign up and do my own party and take it from there. Sounds like there's nothing to lose really.

I like to go into things with my eyes open though, so am still trying to work out what I need to do to build a worthwhile level of income over time. Can someone please explain how the various levels work too - team leader, exec club etc?

Looneylee - how much would I need to do to earn £100 to £200 pm initially? Obviously I would like to grow it beyond this in time, but I think that would be a reasonable starting point.

Do I need to sign up under someone local to me, or do geaographics not matter?

My situation is that I work part time in a career where my earnings are very erratic and to be honest I have got a bit bored of it (even though sometimes it can be quite lucrative). My friends all know what I do and I am a bit loathed to 'lose face' or be seen to be failing at this when everyone finds out I am suddenly selling children's book. Does that sound vain?

Anyhow, thanks for all your help guys - really appreciate it!
  • The location of your team leader isnt important, however it is good if it is someone you can contact easily by phone or email.
You become a Team Leader when you have 4 recruits working with you. As well as your 24% on your sales, when you recruit someone you earn 8% of everything that they sell too, so as you can see the key to growing your business is to recruit people.
The Executive Club is where Head Office set criteria each quater for you to join the club, when you are a member you get offered leads that are sent in to head office, and anyone who signs up or enquires about joining online is "shared" between exec club members. I am an exec club member, and this has enabled me to help my team, by passing event leads to them. One poor girl has 3 events next week all from exec club!
