Status is all about how much money you have or how much you earn. For me, as long you got a 3-1 debit card, and a decent APR credit card that is all you need! Most of us don't earn 6 figures salary, the more you earn, the more you spend on expensive stuff...living the high life!!

Money is not terribly important to me thank goodness unlike some people do seem to think success/failure is defined by how much money you got. Sad really.

    Got to ask this.
Why do you need a 3 in 1 debit card?
Many banks have stopped issuing them and they will cease to exist in June 2011.
Do you need to guarantee any cheques these days?

How you define "common"? It is basically an insult to most of us here...those who have a status OFTEN do not know what is like to live in the real world, where there are abject poverty and living the hard life just like the rest of us.

You obviously missed the smiley at the end!

I consider my self common I have no staff and have to deal directly
    with merchants and tradesmen. ;)

I stayed in a VERY posh hotel recently and paid with my A&L Visa Debit. (its a full auth one, a bit battered due to *cough* excessive use :D)
when I handed it over at check in, the receptionist looked baffled and studied it closely. There were other people checking in, and various gold and platinum cards being handed over - I felt a bit embarrassed at using it. However I used it in the Sainsbury's over the road and no-one batted an eyelid...

What i really mean is a debit card that accept offline transactions... commonly known as 3-1 card. Of course you are right that will cease to exist in the next couple of years where banks stop issuing them. Some banks are still issuing CG cards as of today.

Doesn't look like a huge wind up to me eh?
Lol, status is everything for some people, and they do feel better when showing off a gold card, or a platinum card, or even a black debit card....in reality, no one cares....

I've had that as well - I used to have a NatWest Solo and I used to get that as well - seeing kids with that card!

The bottom line is, no stranger really knows how much money anyone else really has, nor should it really bother them, it certainly doesn't bother me.

I have to be honest and say that I don't even look at the bit's of plastic that other people use, they are of no interest to me.
