I see what you mean. I've re-booked UK parcels and parcels to the USA and never been charged before. May be the generalisation (is that even a word) is to cover all carriers they use, it does say they charge £20+VAT for a pallet re-collection. May be it's best to ask them and get a reply? You can at least see who answers e-mails and who doesn't...

Sorry this is collectmyparcel.com I'm on about.

    Their terms say :

See what I mean, it 'may' be applied, to me that's not a proper term, they either charge or they dont.
If you look back through this thread you will see this has been discussed before and there were some third parties who will charge you and some who may charge you.
It turned out that if the third party thinks you are making a habit of not being in then you can look forward to getting a charge. Its a perfectly proper term that allows for some flexibility.

I did look back but at over 130 pages it's a bit needle in haystack.

I recently fell foul of it when sold something on ebay, won't name names but it was actually a delivery where no one was in, something silly like £15 + vat was charged.

On this occasion I want to have something collected and it's one thing me booking a courier to collect from me, I will make sure I'm in but with regards to someone else staying in, could get caught out there.

Hence reason for looking for one that in the event of the person not being there as agreed I do not fall foul of a high surcharge

You are doing the the right thing asking the third party what will happen as that will be confirmed up to date info.
When you have something collected from somone else you also want to use the carrier who is most likely to show up on the day and my vote would be UPS.
I hope your seller packs it properly as you will not get the cost of your carriage back if there is a problem. Again UPS would get my vote as least likely to smash to pulp.

Why were you charged because the recipient wasn't in? Was that a specific service where they had to be in at a certain time? Normally couriers will attempt up to 2 deliveries and then leave a card, but won't charge if the recipient is not in.

Not 100% sure but I didn't argue much about it.

The person said they were in but no card was left, then the company sent photos to the address where they said card was left

Which courier was this? Sounds a bit odd to me!
  • City Link often take photos of an attempted delivery, usually the front door to show that their driver was there on the day and time etc.
  • Their photos also often end up of the sky or the wrong door!!!
