I would get a UK quote to compare with: It can be a bit nightmarish dealing with a foreign printing co.

    I'd second that.

Thanks for the info guys. This is for a new business in the UK for property. So the type you get put through your door (eg. Chinese takeaway leaflet etc)

What I would like is for all of the formalities to be dealt with initialy until I grt comfortable with it step by step. Is their a company that you chaps would recommend?

    Cheers

    Hi Cem,
Where exactly is the paper in India / Pakistan?
And where is it going to in the UK?
Different airports have slightly different charges.
Different freight forwarders operate in different airports.
Here are the UK charges for using air freight:
    DTI fee - £5.00
    Airliner handling - £32.00
    Customs clearance - £40.00
    Deferment - £10.00
    Document courier charge - £25.00
    Delivery - ??

There will be similar types charges in India.
Using my example of INR120 for airfreight and INR180 for a courier there is really little between the two cost wise. Using a courier will save you a lot of hassle and you will not pay the above fees only a single customs clearance fee of around £25/30. They will deliver to your door and you will not have to arrange delivery. Try a national UK courier. TNT approached us and quoted for couriering from India to Scotland. They were twice the price of an Indian courier company. As someone suggested try a freight forwarder operating from your closest airport for freight rates and charges.

Anybody had any problems with parcelmonkey recently?

A parcel was collected from me in Leicestershire to go to Jersey on 17th May by HDNL, and still hasnt turned up.

Ive just rang HDNL and they said that they contacted ParcelMonkey for more information about the shipment, and because they never replied, it is now on its way back to me

Of course, I can't get hold of parcelmonkey to work out whats going on

Also concerns me that their website has 2 different company reg numbers on it, one of which is a suspended company.....

I just thought that I would share my experiences about Transglobal Express as they are one of the recommended couriers on the main site.

I have sent several large(ish) parcels with TGE all over Europe and the Mid-East this year. Weights range from 5 -15 kg and can be as long as 1.5 metres.

Their online quotes and booking service is very good and they always pickup on time. They use a variety of different couriers depending on the destination -UPS, DHL etc. I have no complaints at all about their service.

One thing that I have been concerned about though, is on occasions weeks after the delivery I get an e-mail stating that the courier has said that there was a discrepancy with the weight so they are now charging me more. As you have to pay up front with a card they automatically take the excess straight off of the card. The thing is I know the exact weight of my parcels as, I have been sending the exact same things with other couriers for over 5 years so I know that the courier (or soemone else) is trying it on. This has now happened to me 4 times since the summer and even though I query it straight away the card payment has already been taken. The staff at customer services are always very polite and explain that they will look into it, but the dispute is never resolved until I phone for a second time. They have all been resolved in my favour, but not until I have made the follow up phone call.

My suspicion is that someone is trying it on and if you don't challenge it or forget that you need to follow it up, they will get away with it.

    Just a word of warning.

I have experienced identical problems with Transglobal Express especially when using the DHL Europlus Service to send pallets to Europe. I have since been advised by others that this is not the best way to ship pallets, as this is not a dedicated pallet type service and has hidden surcharges that arrive a week or so after you have made the booking. I am in dispute with many of these surcharge notices and will endeavour to post any developments here on this site to help others that may be have been or are experiencing similar problems.
Transglobal email you a 'Weight Variance Notice' to say that the carrier has weighed the goods and the weight is different from that what has been entered into the online booking form at time of shipment.
So far when I have asked Transglobal for a copy of the 'report' from the carrier they state ' you are not privy to see'
It would appear that there is such competition in the 'parcels' industry that a number of carriers work like this, surcharges being the way to 'make up' profits. In my opinion it's a numbers game: Out of 100 surcharge notices issued some or even most? may get paid as it is time consuming for people to deal with and may be difficult to prove.
Is there a person with legal knowledge that may be able to cast some light into whether this practice is lawful, as these later surcharge amounts of money go from my credit card straight away. A recent pallet I sent out has had no less than 3 surcharges applied to it. Add these together than I may as well have used a different more expensive carrier. The online booking form is designed to quote you a price but you have to tick boxes relating to terms and conditions that allow them to use your credit card for later surchages. The initail price has always been different from the final price in my expereince.
Typically these surcharges range for the following things-
    1/ Weight Variance

2/ If the pallet is 120 X 100 cm (in other words if you use a standard pallet)

3/ Remote area surcharge : This is covered because if DHL decide to farm out the delivery to a sub contractor delivery firm then this is also charged.

4/ Anything over 70 kgs (typically a pallet with goods on)

Just to complicate things even further there is the 'volumetric' weight:
so if your consignment is over a certain volumetric weight then more fees apply. Volumetric weight is worked out like this. Length X Breadth X Height in cms eg 100 X 100 X100 = 1,000,000. divide this by 4,000 = 250
    that means 250 Kgs

Of 2 parcels I have sent via the Parcel2Go > Parcelforce route, 2 parcels were not collected on the booked day!

    Anyone else experienced this?

In 2010 with electronic communication so good, it is amazing that 10 Parcelforce vans will today drive past this major office location given as the pickup address, yet is is not actually possible to rebook the collection for today, only for tomorrow. Additionally, Parcelforce's computer knows via it's own tracking system that the item (with a pre paid booking) was not collected, yet waits for the customer to chase it up to get that collection to happen.

I have registered specifically today to say how annoyed I am with parcel monkey.

Sold something on ebay on tuesday. Organised for it to be picked up using city link via parcelmonkey on the wednesday. No one came. I emailed that evening saying I wanted the collection to be rebooked and collected today. No one has come so I get onto livechat, they apoligise for the inconvinience and asked whether I wanted to get it rebooked for tommorow. They should have already rebooked it for collection today!

So thats two missed collection dates, my ebay buyer should have got it delivered today!! I paid for a next day delivery, i hope they deliver on saturday or else I am going to be really annoyed , it could end up being monday at the latest they recieve it!!!! They should have recieved it today

Also i was busy typing on live chat whether compensation / refund was possible and the agent logged off and terminated the chat!!! Grrrrrr

I am now having to apoligise to my buyer saying how sorry I am when its not even my fault , i just hope they are understanding considering their parcel could be 5 days late when they and I paid for next day delivery.

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
