We have finally decided we need a new TV over 15 years since we bought one and it is all so confusing now!
1 Plasma vs LCD?
2 is a 50hz with 1080p better than 100hz without the 1080?
3 Panasonic - LG or Samsung?
We don't play games or have a blue ray player, just want something that will last and have good picture and sound!

Depends on size. 42" or above definitely plasma.2 is a 50hz with 1080p better than 100hz without the 1080?
Depends on the tv.3 Pamasonic - LG or Samsung?
Panasonic is a good bet.We don't play games or have a blue ray player, just want something that will last and have good picture and sound!
Best TV on the market for its price is Panasonic TX-P37X10 ( John Lewis for £499 including 5 year guarantee) or TX-P42X10.

There is no relationship between refresh speed and Full HD (1080p).
One dictates how quick the picture is updated, the other dictates how many pixels the TV can display (and if can display them interlaced or paralel).
Its a bit like saying whats better 32" Colour or 50" Black and White. One is not a substitute for the other.0 -
Go to John Lewis and ask them, they are usually very helpful and actually know what they are talking about !
PS: My only connection with them is as a satisfied customer !0 -
Before you go & but a TV I suggest you go to curry's or the like & look at the picture quality. One thing I have noticed doing my job is the picture varies considerably accross the range of tv's.0

DO NOT go to "Currys or the like". These outlets do not know how to display TVs properly and they often "push" one particular make of TV - just note how limited the choice is in many of these places !
Often pictures are "tweaked" so that the set they make the most profit on has the "best" picture.
They will NEVER connect a display TV up to an SD signal if you ask.
That is why I recommend John Lewis or a good independent.0 -
If getting Plasma, dont understimate the "Reflection" problem, as is pretty bad as Plasmas have a glass front.........BTW ive got plasma (unfortunatly)0

.
We have all of ours running on an HD feed, but with SD aerial connections too. They all go out on default settings, and get played around with during their time out there.
I don't know anyone who would refuse to switch to standard def to demo it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Well i think we are off to currys to check out the Panasonic 37" Plasma and compare it with the Samsung 42" - also noticed they have a Toshiba 42" LCD 1080p at same price although we are tempted by the 5 year guarantee from John Lewis.Growing old is manditory, Growing up is optional! :j0
