Homeadvice - you have your view - Technically, I'm sure you are correct about panel specs.HOWEVER for the vast majority of people value for money is most important, ultimate technical quality less so.
I have been entirely satisfied with the performance of my LG TVs - looking back I paid ~ £200 less for the 2 sets than I would have done for Sony/Panasonic equivalents.

Fair to say that price is important, I'm not just suggesting that people outright reject LG but rather making a technical statement about overall quality. Indeed Samsung make very good sets of which are more for the price savy than those of Sony/Panasonic! If you are happy with what you got then fair play to you BUT that is not to say if you had paid that extra £200 you would not be alot happier. My statement shouldn't be taken out of context, LG make decent sets for the money & if you are a gamer then they are are very good. If however you do not want blacks to look a dirty gray then pay that extra & get a Sony, its horses for courses really ;)! there is a trade of to be paid with LCD tech and like with most things, one mans meat is another poison. Simple fact is IPS panels are not nearly close capable of D65 colour calibration, this is a fact!

@roddydogs, deadly! The IPS tech that panasonic use cannot produce no where near the black level or colour accuracy of the PVA/MVA panels used in Sony/Samsung sets but these lack the viewing angle of sets produced using IPS in LG/Panasonic sets. Many would however say that Plasma is still the tech of choice & that LCD has only gained a foot hold due to ultra bright viewing environments of shops (and the ridiculous setting used by retailers which would never be used in the home). This would be my advice too, dispite owning 2 LCD sets (and a plasma). In this regards Panasonic are now world leaders.

  • Ok- we finally took the plunge!

I saw an ad for TG Hughes - £449.00 fo Panasonic 37" Plasma + Free stand on TV - but by the tim OH finally looked at all reviews and got round to buying online they had sold out!
However, he went to local branch this morning and bought one in in store saving the £5.50 delivery charge - looks good so far :j

So what model did you buy?
  • We opted for the TX P37C10B probably not the "latest" model but only came out in March this year ( I think the TX P37X10B is the newer version but apart from the outer casing - can't see much diff in spec)

Apparently the biggest difference is that it can have a problem with reflection.

It also lacks eco mode, surround-sound simulation, side HDMI input, and PC input although these may not be a problem for you.

Richer Sounds seem to be selling it for £399.95 or £439.90 with a 5yr guarantee. I looked at this set too but decided that for the extra £60 I was getting a much better model from a picture quality point of view.

It has 2 HDMI slots - i have no problem getting to not really noticed a problem with reflection, i have home cinema system for sound - eco mode - there is a button at front of TV that a lot of people seem to forget - called off button ( I know my nieghbour always leaves hers in standby - even when away on holiday!!!) also, there is an energy saving mode according to instructions.
Given that it came with a glass stand the same as in currys for over £100 which would've been an extra expence - we are quite happy with our choice:o

Most people will be happy with two. Personally I would have been happier with a third at the back rather than the side but I suppose it's handy for camcorders or the like.

I think this has been the biggest gripe for some. However I'm sure it's all dependent on your room. My room can get a lot of sun during the day and it would have been a problem for me I think.

The eco mode is nothing to do with energy saving for some reason. Apparently it brightens the display during the day and dims it at night to give better colour contrasts - depends on the ambient lighting.

No need to be embarrassed. It's what suits you that matters. I didn't need a stand as I already had one but it sounds like you had a good deal with yours.

Which, do like the Panasonic LCD sets for sure, giving them two silver awards over the last year & there are a few others too (what HiFi, techradar). I am not saying that the panasonics should be avoided or anything like that but if you look at the samsung B550 or B650, they have 5 star/recommended status from almost every review, the same is to be said for the Sony V/W5500 series sets, the pannys while very good can't match this. For the average joe, non of the afore mentioned sets would be a bad choice ;) what I'm saying is for black level & colour accuracy the IPS tech just can't match PVA. I totally agree about glass fronts on the plasmas BUT then again I wouldn't use a plasma in a well lit room, its the classic stumbling block for plasma & like I said in the previous post the reason that LCD has over taken them in popularity. Horses for courses really mate, depends on your own personal setup & what is important to you when using your TV ;).
