I was cold called by Cash4Gold last week. Yes really!!!

As I am exdirectory and signed with the TPS, I was not a happy bunny. Never had any dealings with these morons nor would I. They have been reported to the TPS by me.

I did sell gold over a year ago to scrapgold buyers UK and was very happy, as I was able to buy a new laptop with broken bits I had laying round since the 80's.

Yeah but most of the companies offering more expect you too pay for your own postage, packaging and also insurance...

Well I used goldrecyclingcentre.com which has a similar service, but pays slightly more.

having read through this post I decided to be ruthless and literally got rid of the majority of items I had in my jewellery box, this was all stuff which I'd worn years ago and I was never going to wear again. I took it to a local jewellers who offered me silly money so having read through the advice on here I sent it to Hatton Garden, I posted it at 4pm in the afternoon by special delivery which cost about 6.00 and by 11am the next day I had the cash in the bank, nearly double what my local jewellers had offered. They sent en email breaking down the price and excluded the wire in one of the bangles and I was really happy. My mum is now sorting through her jewellery box with the intention of getting rid of what she no longer wears or wants.

Try this website: www.cooksongold.com - I used to work for this company. They are based in Birmingham Jewellery quarter and Hatton Garden. They update all precious metal prices on their site twice a day and show the scrap value of the various gold carats. So you can use it as a double check to see if you are being offered a fair price. They are mainly for the trade - but there is the option of printing off a pre-paid address label to send off your gold off. If you;re in either B'ham or Hatton Garden you can walk in off the street and sell your metal there and then for cash.
  • The current spot price for 9ct gold is 8.265/gram, so 8.10 is 98% of the spot price, which sounds too good. By how much did their weight differ from yours?
  • I highly reccomend Hatton Garden. After reading the reviews on here I sent mine off yesterday & had the money in the bank 11.30 this morning!
  • Hi, This is my first post, found this thread after researching after my experience with PostalGold. I sent off two items to them 1 x 5g 9ct gold necklace and 1 x 14g 18ct gold chain. I got the postal pack a couple of days after requesting online and sent the items off. Two days later I received an email telling me that a chq for £51 was on it's way to me. As i had already researched their value on line, and had an idea of what they were worth I phoned them straight away and told them I was not happy with the valuation and wanted my items back. I was told that once I received the chq they had "apparantly" already sent, then I was to send it back within 10 days and my items would be returned. Seven days later and no sign of any cheque!! so I phoned them up and told them they said they would cancel the chq and return my items. In fairness I did receive my things back a week or so later, but the chq never materialised... was it ever sent. So don't use them.

Now I have my jewelry back, I still want to sell it but it is a case of once bitten twice shy at the moment.

Still after reading this thread I may try one of the more recommended places.
  • what a breath of fresh air , this is my 2nd time using this company , posted item at 2.30 monday , and received remittance advise 2pm the next day .

Sent gold of to postgoldforcash on tuesday. Yesterday Wedensday I received an offer which I accepted and was told would be paid in cash by return post(today). It didn't arrive and on looking at the website I discovered that niether of the e-mail addresses are working, both state that the server has not been installed properly. What is worrying now is that I wanted my payment paid straight into my bank account and gave them my bank details. If it is a scam what happens in that case.
