Hi everyone, thought I'd post about a Company I used, and as a lot of people are suspicious of the low post count posters, you can see I am not. :D

Right I used the following and they have just as good or even better prices than the one that gets recommended here, Hattons.

    http://www.howcashforgold.co.uk/

As I had a bit of Gold, £2500 worth, the first time I drove down to London and checked their outfit out. All legit address and large premises with a jewelery store.

Second time I posted my items(as I had checked the place out) and sent £1500 worth and received my Payment a few days later in my account after confirmation via email of the price.

So all above board and top prices to boot. They pay prices on the day they receive the gold.

    I was thinking the same!

I have approx 25g of 9ct gold, so would expect at least £150 for it and was thinking of sending to Hatton Garden Metals as I had seen the good reviews, but I am sceptical at the best of times.

I might just take the chance and will post on here to advise what happens (although I am new to this site and no one would know if I was genuine or not!!).

I sent off my gold, used some digital kitchen scales to weigh it (a number of times) and it said either 22g or 24g, I sent it off saying it was 24g, and got paid for 23g @ £8.04 per gram = £184.92.

I was more than happy with this, especially as I took it to a local jewellers who were warning people about being ripped off sending jewellery in the post. Although I had told the jeweller that I was selling it as scrap, they were examining it and saying they were checking the quality of the items.

They were obviously looking to see what they could re-sell (some of it was in perfect condition but just hadn't been worn for over 10 years) and they offered £85! I knew that it was worth much more than this so decided to take my chances sending it off in the post, glad I did.

Interesting report on BBC News today.

Over the last year there's been an boom in the number of shops and websites offering to take those old rings and trinkets off your hands. But Newsbeat's found out that some of the biggest names in the industry are paying just a fraction of the amount that gold could be worth if it was taken to a jeweller or pawnbroker.

We wanted to try it out for ourselves so asked Tony Jarvis, an independent gold bullion dealer in Mayfair, London, to value a bunch of old earrings, chains and lockets.

He told us that a "fair price" for the nine carat scrap gold would be around £300, although daily variations in the gold price could push that number up or down slightly.

We double-checked and took the gold anonymously to a number of shops in London's famous old jewellery market, Hatton Garden, specialising in scrap metal. Sure enough, the best price we were offered was £318.

We then sent exactly the same set of rings and chains to three of the biggest players in the postal market.

American giant Cash4Gold has grown quickly off the back of heavy TV advertising, including expensive primetime slots in this year's US Superbowl. ....The firm sent us a cheque for just £63. When we called to ask for our jewellery back that offer was increased to £100.

Crewe-based CashMyGold is the most high profile British company in the market. ....The company uses the slogan "best prices paid for your gold" but its offer was the lowest of the three at just £60.20. We called to ask for our jewellery back and a sales rep immediately offered to increase the offer to "£150 maximum".

Finally high street jeweller H.Samuel launched its own postal gold service over the summer. Unlike other firms, it always telephones customers to ask if they will accept an offer rather than sending a cheque straight back. Its quote? The highest of the three at £182 rising to £210 if we agreed to take gift vouchers instead of a cheque, still significantly below the £300 quoted by our gold bullion dealer.

I think you have to trust the merchant to be honest as not everything is hall marked?!.

We are not talking about pure gold here; 9 caret has more base metal in it than gold..

Manchester Gold Company, I found whilst briefly looking at threads and hearing of many friends whom have sold gold in various places. Look no further to sell! Excellent price, Excellent Service, honest and reliable. I made a call and was paid a visit (manchester area) the next day. The transaction was relaxed, and I have to say well presented, from a gentleman named Lionel, Thank you. Well Recommended to anybody. They have a website.

I have posted on various threads regarding money4gold and the growing amount of problems with this company, also the action many of us have taken to get our gold returned and to help make others aware of this company and their practices.
The BBB is one avenue myself and others have used, for those not familiar the BBB is the Better Business Bureau in America as is Money4Golds head office. |The BBB act as mediator between money4gold and consumers, crediting companies with ratings and reviews. Money4Gold had a rating in the region of a B in October 09 when people on this site and http://money-watch.co.uk/5732/have-money4gold-stolen-your-gold/comment-page-1#comment-91329 started logging our complaints with the BBB.
Money4Gold now has a rating of a "F" with the following BBB explanation of the rating.

Our opinion of what this rating means:
We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

IMO that sums up money4gold quite well!

i use it on a weekly basis as well
  • The best places to sell gold online offer you an online price using a calculator.

They should not charge refining or smelt charges.

I would not use the ones on the T.V as they spend a fortune on advertising & you get less for your gold.
