BT Line Rental charge..

BT_company_representative wrote: »Hi maveli, Ok if you are receiving a quarter bill from BT you will receive a total of 4 bills a year. On each of these bills you will have received 3 credits, which equals 12 credits in total.
Therefore you are receiving a credit for each month of the year, regardless of how many days each bill contained you are still gave a credit for each month that you have been billed for. This is the way that all discounts and special offers are applied to customer’s BT bills.
I am sorry for all the confusion that has been caused by this but I can assure you that all your credits have been applied accordingly.
Hope this clears things up for you, if I can help further please PM me!
Thanks Natasha
Firstly, sorry HH62 for going off topic, I hope the PM will answer your problems.
Now to BT, you are correct that normally a year is divided into four quarters, each receiving a £ 3.75 credit for paperfree billing. However in their wisdom in order to tie up bill dates with rental dates Bt have made this year consist of four quarters plus 21 days (in my case).
I still think this is a major unforseen problem whereby the computer can only credit a full month, eg £1.25 and cannot prorata it to 21 days.
Maveli, how they prorata the days baffles me. The only way I could tally up my cost was to make September have 31 days, if I divided 21/365 that did not work, or 21/91 or if I used the discounted monthly figure.0 -
I am another unhappy BT customer whos agrees that the billing is so messed up that nobody can make sense of it, I am also suspicious that that it is messed up on purpose so that BT can over charge and get away with it.BT_company_representative wrote: »Photo Stylus,
If you are on the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan at no extra charge you will see on your bill the standard charge of £15.45 a month with a credit applied of £2.95 a month to bring your line rental down to £12.50 a month.
Therefore if you are billed quarterly you will see 3 credits on your account regardless of how many days there are in the month or in addition to your 3 months line rental. You receive a total of 4 quarterly bills and 3 credits on each bill so therefore 12 monthly credits in total.
The extra days that were applied to your bill when migrating your account will be charged at the standard rate of £15.45 as you are given a months credit of £2.95 each month regardless of the amount of days in the month. How we work out how much you are charged for the extra days is as follows,
(£15.45 x 12 / 365 = £0.51 a day) Therefore using your example of 16 days (£0.51 x 16days = £8.16 including VAT)
This is also how we would work out a daily rental rebate if we could not provide you service for a period of time for whatever reason.
Hope this clears things up for you. Thanks
Am I being stupid here, why is it all so complex, WHY DONT YOU JUST BILL EVERYONE ON THAT PACKAGE £12.50 RATHER THAT FAFFING ABOUT WITH CREDITS!!!
Also why aren't the itemised calls on the latest online bills in date order, WOULD THAT BE TOO EASY FOR YOU ALSO!!
Please god bring LLU to Stourport and get me away from these idiots...0 -
Because they cannot scam you as easily then.
What it appears they are saying is....
They add a few days on this bill say an extra 16 days on this one. No credit is allowed on this as it is not a full month. Then a bit later they add a few more days. Eventually they will have added an extra few months onto your bills all without discounts.
How do we get Martin or someone on this site, with a bit of knowledge to look into this for us?0 -
Hi Guys
Sorry to see that this has caused so much alarm. We apply the credit for the 12 month offers on a 12 calendar month basis, during the contract you will see these credits shown as credit 1 of 12, 2 of 12 etc. Should the contract renew within a quarterly billing period then you will receive the credits entitled on the next bill.
So in the scenario mentioned previously where extra days have been billed (due to a change in our billing system, this is a one time only occurrence), the credit will still apply for the full month however we have not split the credits up on the bill to avoid confusion.
For example we apply the next full month rather than credit for 14 days and then another credit for 16 (or 17) days.

Hi BT Rep,
I am giving up trying to educate you on how to pro-rate a bill.
Any chance I can get an answert to the followingOriginally Posted by BT company representative
Also the standard rental charge that you are referring to is calculated by the following formula, £15.45 x 12 / 365 = £0.507 (£0.51 a day for your rental plan) and then you are given the standard credit of £2.95 for each month. Thanks Natasha
Really!! Then could you please explian me why I am charged 3.61 for 7 days ? It should be 0.51 X 7 = 3.57 ??
now try (15.45/30) X 7
Also if you think the bill was right, why did I get the following email from BT. you don't like to admit your employer made a mistake in the billing ??
Quote:
Dear Mr. xxx,
As per the discussion with you, this is to to confirm you that I have removed the incorrect charges of £0.81 p from the latest bill. Now the outstanding amount is reduced to £52.51 including VAT.
The reference number of this adjustment is xxxxxxxx
I do hope that I have been able to answer all your queries. However,if you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail.
Thank you for contacting BT.0 -

Others are talking about the line rental price, which is £11.25 per quarter for paperfree billing. To align the billing systems you are applying a few extra days line rental above the normal 91 day quarter, and for these few extra days you are using the tariff of £12.50. This does appear to be a scam, albeit possibly not an intentional one.0 -
Just got my latest bill - my call period is still out of alignment with the rental period ! So no extra x days rental charge.
Thought that everyone on quarterly billing was being changed over for simplicity/clarity (ha ha!)0 -

Hope you will NOT get this in the next bill.
The BT Reps still didn't replied to my above post. May be they understood the bug in their calculation for pro-rating and don't want to accept in public.0 -
