Hi Photo Stylus/ Maveli,

If you want the line rental charge explained more please send your account details to btcare@bt.com for attention of Gail.

Once this information is received I will be able to look into this for you.

Thanks Gail

I don't want to waste any more time on this and to receive threats from you for a few pennies. But it is a matter of principle and BT is illegaly charging millions of customers these extra few pennies

As I stated earlier the way BT pro-rate is incorrect . The correct prorate for me should be (16.14/30) * 7. £16.14 is what I see if logon to BT online as monthly charges.

I have reported the case earlier and the incident number is 091012-011618

And if you come back to explain, Oh that 16.41 is after +_*/ then that's exactly like the bank manager in Nationwide ad sounds like

Hi Maveli,

I would need you to send in your details to btcare@bt.com to look into this for you. Without this information I am unable to confirm what is showing on your bill.

I can understand that you have already reported this case but we are also here to help with any queries.

Thanks Gail

• Can the BT rep please explain why the the pro rata days added to peoples bills are being charged at non discounted rates?

Not in private, I am already doing that, But seems like a few more people are having the same queries.

BT Rep Gail,
I have to say I totally agree with Photo Stylus.

Please can you do us all a courtesy by explaining how this extra seven day charge is calculated.
It is quite clear that several people quite reasonably expect to be able to understand how their bill is calculated.

Please be kind enough to explain it in this thread.
Thanks.

Photo Stylus has hit the nail on the head. The extra few days charged to bring the bill date in line with the rental date have been charged at the full prorata rate of £12.50 without the paper free discount being applied.
In my case the extra days were 21 and cost £8.47 ( their calculation assumed September had 31 days!!). The paperfree discount applied to the bill was £3.75 which was only 3 months worth.
The extra paid by me was 83p.
I hope BT rep will come back and confirm this in public.
• notbritishgas, Lucky you lol

Our bill seems to be missing the final 12th credit, for the contract period and an extra 16 days at the full non contract price, even though its clearly inside the contract period.
Making the quarterly bill £60 with only £5 worth of calls used.

BT rep said the 12 credits have already been applied, But i cannot see BT giving credits before they are actually due.

Can anyone clarify this. When you took out the 12 month contract did they backdate 3 months credits to the previous bill?

If i took out a contract on the 10th of november then i would expect the final credit to appear on this bill i have just received, Then the next 2 months to be charged at the full rate. This clearly is not the case.

This Bill, October, November & December line rental.

Can anyone explain the actual reason why they are adding extra days to the bills? The only reply i got before was to bring the calls into line with the line rental. Forgive me if i am stupid but when i joined BT many many years ago, My line rental and calls were already aligned?
What next? Bill us for calls we MIGHT make in the next quarter and then refund us when the credit exceeds £10,000.

Sorry as you may have guessed this is starting to annoy me now, No reply from BT as yet today.
• Hi KeithP,

The extra seven days are calculated the same way as a full quarter's discount, because of the change in billing cycles if the extra days are not shown on your current bill then they will be applied to your next bill. I can assure you that we have not omitted the extra days.

Regards,
Jon.
If that is the case can you say why my 21 extra days were charged at £8.47 and not at the discounted quarterly rate.
21 divided by 31 = 0.6774 multiply by £12.50 = £8.467.

I can see that there is a lot of confusion regarding how these days have been calculated and to understand this you first need to understand how the special offers work. The special offers work by adding a full month’s credit to your bill.

A few examples of this are in February where there are only 28 days you still get one credit of £2.95. This is the exact same for December where there are 31 days but the credit is still for £2.95. So the credit for February would have been applied from the 01/02/09 – 28/02/09 and for December it would be 01/12/09 – 31/12/09.

So to use eribaman as an example they were charged 8 days at the full price £15.45 because the credit for October was already applied on the bill and the credit for September was applied on the previous bill.

The only exceptions to this are when customers are coming to the end of their contract. In some cases the full 12 months credits have already been applied and the contract has not yet been renewed.

To try and give an example of this would be if your contract expired during your billing period. This would mean that the full 12 credits would have been given throughout the year but as your contract has not been renewed you may be missing one or two credits for advance rental. If you renew your contract then your next bill will backdate the credits and if you do not renew you are being charged at the full price.

The best advice I can give you all is to check the bill that has the additional days and also the bill prior. Check the bills to see if the credits were applied. If you are missing any credits this could be because you are at the end of your contract or that the credits have already been applied throughout the year.

I can understand that this can be quite hard to take in and it is harder to explain as everyone will have a different bill. However if you are still having any problems you can either send me a PM or an email at btcare@bt.com and I will be happy to look into your bill specifically.
