Thanks mac
it feels so much better to not have to scrimp, but I'm not going to start spending like crazy. The old habits are a bit ingrained, I've still got my laundry gloop and soapnuts to use up after all.
Have made a curry for tea, so will have that at half time.
Just laughing watching the England players miming to the National Anthem. One or two actually sang, but the rest patently were just opening and closing their mouths.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

soapnuts...LOL! :rotfl:
Yes, DH is making sharp intakes of breath and muttering about how rubbish they are
So far Algeria are all over them, let's hope they get a bit more confidence.....0 -
Been awake since silly o'clock, so have put some washing on only bedding so used soapnuts!:p), tidied the kitchen and done the bathroom. Once DS has gone to work, will get the Vax out and start on the living room carpet.
I enjoyed the last job as it was so unstressful, just turn up, do the work and go home, but there really wasn't enough work even though everyone thought they were busy, it wasn't busy enough for me. This one is the opposite, loads to do, and everyone being a bit reactive and jumping to do things straight after coming out of a meeting rather than thinking things through first. Advantage of being a contractor, don't get involved in the internal politics of an orgainisation.
The world is a very small place
new job isn't that far away but most people on Merseyside travel in to Liverpool to work, not the other way round -- looked up from my desk on Thursday and saw my next door neighbour! He had come for a meeting, have also met 2 people who I used to work with over 10 years ago.

Great that this job has given you your mojo back!
Someone I worked with and who became a close friend, is in a similar position. She left our place to move to a job with better hours closer to home, as her children are young and she never saw them.
But as you described, there is nothing for her to get her teeth into and affect change, so after only a few months - she's bored.
When I caught wind of this I asked her to come back. So she is :j She has managed to negotiate shorter working hours, which fit in better with the kids. I'm so happy - for her and for you,
Have a good day x0 -

Hi SH
didn't realise it was so long since I posted, but have been soooo busy, get stuck in meetings and then don't leave early enough and hit all the traffic. Tonight for example I left work at 5 and then hit the traffic and it took me 90 minutes to go 2 miles! And there is no alternative route, because its crossing the river the only alternative adds 30 miles to the journey.
Still loving new job, there is so much to do. They have got a deadline of October to get lots of procedures in place and evidence of improvement etc. so its all good. Have a sort of new SOA in my head, but my first priority has to be the mortgage arrears that sort of sneaked up because of the way PPI worked out. I shouldn't have been so honest with them.
So even though I am £150 a week better off, I am allowing myself an extra £40 for my food shop, but petrol is dearer, so it now works out at:-
Previously - max spend £100 - £20 gas & electric £10 petrol, left £70 for food, but usually kept it to £50.
Now - around £140 - £20 gas & electric, petrol £40 car parking £7.50, £70 - £80 for food. Means we can have the odd take away.
DS has had a change in circs too. An ill wind etc. but one of his colleagues has had a major bust up with the boss and has made allegations to HR so has been moved to another site, and DS has got the extra hours, so he will pick up an extra £250 a month.
Things are definitely looking up ..... oh and its RACE FOR LIFE in a couple of weeks.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

hi Gill good to hear things are going well moneywise. Your commute sounds frustrating but at least if you are enjoying the job that helps a lot!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I am really not enjoying the commute, as often get stuck on the bridge. This week DS was on days so decided to go through the tunnel and drop him off in work on the way. Double gain because was leaving house earlier too as he needs to be in for half seven. Journey much smoother, but costs £1.40 each way, and coming home that way means hitting some horrible city centre traffic, so there's no ideal really.
Still very busy, and now need to look at the figures and see what I can do. Want to build up the savings pot again so I have a mortgage 'cushion', as this contract is only until October.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Morning :hello: You sound busy, but it's good that you are still enjoying it.
When's the Race for Life? I've just got back from a run and have got a 10k in 2 weeks, then the dreaded Great North Run in September _pale_
Take care and don't work too hard0
