Getting out of my comfort zone

Agree doing little jobs around the place would be a great use of DS's time - does he know what he wants permanently, or does he need sometime to sit back and reassess?
He did music technology when he left school, has a HNC (I think) so would love to do something with that, but its not that easy. One of the things with this job, he was put onto a zero hour contract, and the idea was he'd have time free to DJ at the weekend; not every weekend, but some. Work then started mucking him about and he had to let people down, so he got fed up arranging things that he couldn't commit to.
So, he's going to make his wages last as long as he can, do some jobs around the house and look into running workshops etc. Even if he does it voluntary to get his foot in the door. So long as he lives at home, he doesn't need much money, so for now, part time work will do. One things certain, I can't spare the money.

The music business is *so* tough to get into .... hope zumba was good again tho!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I think I'm starting to get the hang of the steps now, so long as I don't have to do arm movements at the same time
, but it is good fun, it gets me out of the hotel etc. Last night I even walked there and back, so 1 mile + 1 hours exercise + 1 mile back, is a fair bit of exercise for me.
Spoke to DS earlier, he is just enjoying his first day off, he got up early, made himself a bacon buttie and then chilled for a while. He doesn't want to make loads of money from music, but its all he knows. He's looking around, even if he just got a regular DJ slot, it would be better than nothing, and at least he'd be happier. He's got mates who are musicians who have asked him to produce for them, and in the past he's not had the time, so he's got mates coming over this week, he's going to do them some tracks for free in return for credits. Just getting his DJ name seen on flyers etc. will be good for him, and for his confidence.
Spends so far, £4 at zumba, and 54p on a choccie bar on the way home:oDebts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

DS sounds like he's being proactive, so I hope something works out for him.
Have you decided what to do about the mac yet? Have a good time at zumba - you're putting me to shame as I've not exercised for a week and have no intentions of doing so tonight!0 -
Cross posted macgirl.
I'm watching a few items on ebay, just to get a feel for prices, but have found out you can get reconditioned stuff from Apple themselves, so will look at that too. I *really* don't want a windows machine! While I'm away this little netbook is fine, but I have to go through a bit of faff to get stuff onto it.
Part of me also is thinking - can I justify it as a business expense? There is money in the business account, so maybe wait until year end and see what the tax bill is.....Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

I would have thought it was a business expense especially as you can demonstrate you have a separate laptop for personal use... but I'm not an accountant

Its certainly eligible as a business expense, of course it is - but it still costs money, and its whether you want to spend that!
Didn't realise DS was so far along with the music biz - credit, getting your name out there, is brilliant, well done to him.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I have a sort of budget in mind, and some money towards it, but if I can offset that against a business expense, I think it can be classed as capital and as I'm in the first year I think you get better allowances, so will do some checking up.
DS has been building up his stuff over the years so has all sorts of recording equipment etc. Studio time is expensive for his mates, so they liked it when he did stuff for them, but he's been too busy. Will see how it goes.
Any how, home, and he cooked tea for me! Bless:)
Strangely I seem to have more energy at the moment, don't know if its the lighter nights or the effects of doing exercise, but looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Was awake at silly o'clock this morning, so feeling really tired now, but its been a beautiful day. But after that bad start, it got a bit worse; went to have a shower, ours is an 'over the bath' effort, and a proper electric one is on the list; reached up to adjust it and the shower head snapped off in my hand:eek:
I've had to spend money, new shower hose and shower head.
When I went to get changed for Zumba on Monday, realised that my sports bra was broken. Somehow the strap had been sheared in half! No idea how that happened. Fortunately I had another reasonably good bra, otherwise would have been a bit uncomfortable. So I've been and bought a new one, just a cheap one from a sports shop, until I can get to proper shop at the weekend.
Last week spent £45 on the Mr T shop last week, so this weeks shop shouldn't be too much, but DS seems to have gone through soft drinks at an incredible rate!Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Boo to the shower and bra..... apparently, Lidl or Aldi do the best sports bras and are really cheap. Might be worth a look, my friend - a keen runner and well endowed - says they are brill but sell out fast.
Don't know about cheap showers though. Hope all's well with you and DS. The weekend's almost here
