    Morning,

I'm now lurgified too! Started last night, constantly feeling like I needed to clear my throat, this morning I've got hardly any voice and feel drained.

So a day of doing nothing.

Will sort out money stuff though as have had a large payment into business account, which I think is VAT, so need to move that so I don't accidentally spend it! HMRC tend to take a dim view of things like that.

    ****Money post ***

I've been taking money out weekly and budgeting weekly, but this doesn't help if I see bargains etc. as it means I use the debit card, so have been trying to work out a way of working that fits in with being paid weekly but gives the flexibility of monthly.

So instead I have drawn out cash on NYE and going to see how long it lasts. In theory, £50 a week for groceries, but often spend lots less than that, so will see how it goes.

    So far:-
    cash £200
    spends £0

Good on the spends - bad on the dreaded lurg :(
Hope you feel better soon and good that you have an extra day to get over it, at least we'll have a short week to ease us back in gently :)
    Take care x

Yep, very bad on the lurgy, sorry to hear you've got it now.

With the spends ... do you mean that you'll start to pay for bargains with cash now, not the debit card?

Yes, that's the plan, as at least at the beginning of the month, I'll have lots of cash. It will be easier to keep control (I think). I will still keep things like paying for the hotel and food while I'm away on the business debit card, as that's easier for tax purposes.

Have dosed myself up with hot lemon and honey, don't think it works as such, just makes me feel better :)

Just read through some of you diary, congrats on your doing.

Sorry to here about the flu stuff though

I sometimes get the same urge though, cheap DVD etc. So I have taken to doing what you have done- with draw my monthly personal budget for food and fuel in my case (£120 ish- Just me on my own) and then putting my wallet away till the following pay day so there is no temptation to use it. It really helps i find.

    Good luck

That makes sense - now its New Year, I might do something like that. I'd run down all my supplies to move, then stocked up, then got ill, then there was Christmas, its been all over the place. Using that kind of system would give me back my control again.

    Evening
despite being lurgified I've spent most of the day with Mum who still isn't too good, but has a hospital appointment on Tuesday, so hopefully will get something sorted. Funny feeling this, being an only child, when I'm certain I have a sister and a brother somewhere, and Mum has lots of nieces living nearby.

Tea was a scrumptious 'left overs concoction' - some bits of beef out of the freezer, carrots in honey left over from dinner yesterday, all made into a sort of casserole thing and topped with sliced potatoes, left over from Christmas Day and frozen. There's still some left, so hoping it will keep a few days.

    Budget cooking here we come!

That sounds quite a sensitive thing that you're sensing, gill - I hope you can find further information if need be, for your own sake. And somebody else knows - didn't you say your mum comes from a large family? Very tough.

Your leftovers scrummy sounds lurvely - honeyed carrots!!!! I bet it was really rich :)

They were scrummy and were even better second time round as they added a 'richness'.

Have done no housework for days, so really ought to start a bit of a tidy. DS came home from work yesterday with a bag full of uniforms to be washed. When he gets the train or bus home, he leaves his uniform in work, and theres a bit of a collection. So now have 6 white shirts, 2 pairs of black pants and countless pairs of thermal long johns all to be washed and dried.

Still feeling rotten, but Mum has rung and she's feeling better today,so probably won't go up there.

Will need to do some shopping today, just a few bits, so will see how that goes. There is more than enough in the fridge and freezer, but need basics like milk. Not sure which local shops are open, I know big supermarkets are, but don't want to be tempted. I'd sooner pay an extra 5p in local shop and avoid temptation.

I'm watching Zen on iplayer at the moment, started watching it last night but fell asleep. I may have to watch it a few times as I seem to be missing a few things.
