    Hi sweetie :)

You sound like you're really working hard at your wardrobe, which is lovely - tho I also understand just doing the George trousers, when you've got to wear them in such dodgy places as Council depots.

Hope you have a lovely time tonight - whatever you're doing, whoever you're with - and that 2011 is filled with positive new discoveries for you.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Thanks KC, such a lovely post.

At the moment I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing later, but something will turn up. Usually go to friends, but plans have changed a bit.

Just watching the end of Sound of Music.

Wishing anybody reading a Happy and Healthy New Year.

 I watched most of that! Got distracted by a phone call, and ended up watching James May talking about his sisters' toys, it was fun.

Loads of people on their own tonight - watching over their kids, or ill (or doing the laundry, like RT and her husband described on my thread :rotfl:) have a good time whatever it is you do. I'm for another cup of tea, and I might have an early tipple, which means I can have another one later on :)

    New Year, New start.

I was going to post about the end of my year, but decided it was too much of a downer for the start of a new year. So, to summarize the last week of the year:-
best friends OH in car accident, car write off, but fortunately he is not hurt
    Mum ill again.
Job that I am currently covering for, has now been evaluated, and is too low a grade to make it worth me applying.

So a sort of list, by no means definitive, just a few thoughts

    Random
    • Update CV
    • Make contact about singing club
    • Sort out mp3 player with language lessons
    • Inventory freezer and cupboards and do some meal plans
    • Make definite arrangements to meet friends rather than the 'let me know when you're free' variety.
    • Do some number crunching, make assumptions about minimum income required to survive, budget accordingly.
    • Make regular use of Grabbit etc.

    Craft type stuff
    • Thinking about something DT said about next years Christmas cards  I am going to treat myself to a Cuttlebug, and one decent punch and re-use all this years cards to make next years.
    • Clear a definite area for doing crafts, rather than having to move stuff round.
    • Keep track of the bargains I've picked up, so I don't forget I got them.
    • Find an area where the sewing machine can 'live' as would be more likely to use it.
    • Pinching yet another idea, find somewhere to keep track of birthdays etc. not a great fan of spreadsheets for this.
Fed up with lists now, watching Eric and Ernie.

That *does* sound bad about the job - they're not trying to get out of paying you what they contracted for this time, are they? Worried .....

About the cards ... do you mean mounting the front page or so onto card blanks to make a new card? That sounds interesting! And you have a supplier on ebay that you use as well, don't you? I was mentioning something about cards to Lula, who seemed to agree - when you buy packs of Christmas cards, even fairly nice ones, they're only about 20 - 30p each. Its difficult to make a card yourself for less than that - but birthdays and special occasions are *really* difficult, I can sometimes find a nice card for £1, but more often its £2, even £3.

RE: the job, my contract is my contract, they have agreed the rate; it just means that it's not worth me applying for the permanent job, which was a consideration. Whether they'll get anyone with the skills they want, for the money, is another matter altogether.

With the cards, yes, for Christmas its hard to make them cheap enough. I make them because I like doing it. But if you buy a nice punch, for example in the shape of a bauble, or a tag, or a christmas cracker, you can use up cards and make embellishments that are 'different'. I took photos of some of the ones I did and when I find the lead for the camera I'll sort it. One of the other things I need to do is write out how I make the cards so I can do them again.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, friend's OH / car and the job. Jobswise, I guess it's not the one for you and although it's going to be tough, there are still plenty recruiting so I'm sure something will turn up. That must be the downside of contracting - I'll keep everything crossed for you.

I too need to create a nice home for my sewing machines. I've got 2 industrial ones in the cellar, but at the moment no inclination to sit down there.
Thanks for the reminder and happy 2011 :)
