    Hi Fizzle,

I just wrap mine in a clean dry tea towel - same with HM cakes etc. I just make sure it is away from any moisture and it's fine.

    Hope it helps,

I haven't tried this myself, but one of Nigella Lawsons books mentions using potato water (as in, water that you have cooked potatoes in!) when making the bread as it keeps better. She even says that when she cooks potatoes, she freezes the water to use later when making bread. She truly is old style !

Please help! OH and I have found that not matter how well we keep the bread bag sealed or how fresh the bread is, within 2 or 3 days it's only good for toast and within 5 days the mould has set in!

Ideas please as to how cheaply to store bread for as long as possible, without having to resort to purchasing a bread bin!

I freeze all my store bought sliced bread and just remove the number of slices I need about 10 minutes before I make them up into sandwiches. We toast bread straight from the freezer without any problems. Homemade or shopbought unsliced loaves we wrap in a bag, but to be honest they get eaten long before they are stale.

We keep it in the freezer. If we have toast then the frozen bread goes in the toaster. If we want a sandwich then we microwave the bread to defrost it or leave it out for a while.

I've started keeping my bread inside a large lock & lock container. The bread keeps very well inside of this. You can find lock & lock at Lakeland, on ebay and qvc sell it as well. My mother did report that she had seen some in Wilko's. btw lock & lock is addictive.
  • Its just me and my girlfriend living together and we always seem to throw bread away every few days.

We use 6 slices a day (2 for toast, then 2 sandwichs for work).

So a loaf proberly lasts 3-4 days, but it goes all stale after 2 or 3. so i end up throwing some away.

Is there any money saving ways to kep bread fresher? Bearing in mind we only had a freeze in the top of our fridge we keep other food in!
