1,000 Days to Financial Freedom & Lots of Friends!

When I started reading MSE in 2008, I calculated my DFD as 12th July 2012. From today, this is approximately 1,000 days away!
Ideally, I would love to reach this goal a lot earlier but I am going to work towards achieving my challenge for July 2012. My goal will be broken down into smaller steps - the first one being to close my Tesco Credit Card within the next 100 days (by 18th January). In addition to this, I will be paying £1 towards a debt every day until I owe nothing other than my mortgage.
Please feel free to share the journey with me.... all the friends I can make on my trip of a lifetime are warmly welcomed!

Hello :hello: - welcome to diary-land!
Seems as though you've set a sensible goal which you can then aim to reduce, rather than setting on which is super-ambitious and you will struggle to even meet, let alone beat!
Are you going to do and post up an SOA so people can make suggestions of where you may be able to trim back your expenditure etc? No problem if not, just that every little helps (Hang on, no, that's a supermarket!) and if there's somewhere that you've not noticed where a few odd ££'s can be saved it might be worth exploring.
Looking forward to hearing how you're getting on!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hey EssexHebridean - thanks for popping in to say Hi! I'll update my SOA and post it over the next couple of days.
Resisted temptation yesterday when DH suggested we go out for tea with the kiddies - I persuaded him that I had sufficient food in the house to whip up a tasty tea at home! This is soooo unlike me as I'd be the first to get ready to go out! Must have saved around £60.
Just paid my daily £1 onto my TCC. Going to have an "easy" day today, catching up with some housework and continuing to plan for Christmas. I am aiming to finished all my shopping by the end of November, that way I won't end up last minute buying and spending lots more than I have budgeted for.
Have a great day everyone!0 -

Hi Beanielou & Moneytroubles - thanks for the good wishes!
Had a great day today, paid my daily £1 and also contributed £3 as a result of the money I saved by taking sandwiches to work. I know that £4 doesn't seem much but I guess that if I keep this up it will amount to my debts being cleared sooner rather than later.
This is so addictive - am I becoming mad??!!!! :rotfl:0 -
hi, no debt diva, are you transferring the £1 daily from your current account or putting it aside in a jar and then paying off a lump sum? sounds like a good plan, its almost like £1000 from no where. i think i will join you.cc & o/d debts 4/2/11 - 12209.

Hi Badpenny, I'm paying it via online banking as I want to see the balance of my debt decrease daily! Setting the £1 aside is also a good idea -I just felt that I may be tempted to "dip in" if it wasn't paid to my TCC instantly!
Would be great to have some company - thanks for joining me!0 -
Just paid £35 towards my TCC, which takes my outstanding debt to under £17K at £16,999!!!
This now sounds a lot better than the original £18K worth of debt I started out with. I do wish that I had paid more attention over the last year and concentrated a little more! However, I am definately well on the road to squashing my debt now.0 -
I also have a Tesco card to clear so will go with your idea of knocking a £1 off it every day

I'm sure those 1000 days will fly by for you x0
